Omarion Miller broke out in 2025 under coach Deion Sanders, tallying 45 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. Despite his career-best numbers, Colorado went 3-9 and ranked 116th nationally in scoring.
After Colorado’s losing season and struggles with recruiting, Miller announced his intent to enter the transfer portal, leaving the program he called home for three seasons. Although the portal opens January 2, 2026, two Big 12 rivals have already shown interest in the wide receiver.
Big 12 Teams Scramble to Land WR Omarion Miller Ahead of Transfer Portal Opening
The competition to secure Omarion Miller is intensifying, as Big 12 rivals Arizona State and Texas Tech rapidly move to pursue the 6’2″ wide receiver ahead of the transfer portal opening in two weeks, sources told On3.
Arizona State finished 8-4 in the regular season. It will play Duke in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. While speculation surrounds quarterback Sam Leavitt and coach Kenny Dillingham, Arizona State’s pursuit of Miller is emerging as another key storyline to watch this summer.
Top wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is reportedly declaring for the 2026 NFL draft, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Karpman. This departure leaves Arizona State with a critical need at wide receiver, a void the coaching staff is eager to fill, making Miller an attractive target for their offense next season.
This season, Tyson has received 61 passes for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games, which pales in comparison with Miller’s performance in yards per carry and total yards. Gaining the Colorado star from the transfer portal as early as possible would mean they won’t have to exhaust the offseason looking for a primary wideout.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech, which is competing in the college football season, is set to lose key receivers Caleb Douglas and Reggie Virgil after the 2025 season, as they have exhausted their eligibility. Douglas and Virgil have a combined output of 1,522 yards, 109 receptions, and 13 TDs.
To prepare for the impending departure of the two senior receivers, Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire has notably secured commitments from highly rated prospect Chase Campbell and tight end Matt Ludwig for the next season’s campaign. Junior WR Coy Eakin, who recorded 47 receptions for 626 yards and six TDs, could also be a primary target for the Red Raiders.
The presence of freshmen like Campbell, Ludwig, and Eakin could put Texas Tech in a strong position to secure Miller’s offseason commitment. In McGuire’s Air Raid offense, Miller may get fewer touches, but his central role as a dynamic receiver could still force opponents to defend him closely or with double coverage to limit big plays.
The transfer portal for college football players will open on Jan. 2, meaning they still have time to back out and return to their previous programs. However, the current NIL and recruitment landscape makes it highly unlikely for players searching for a new team to return to their previous programs and run it back.
