Wisconsin quarterbacks struggled to stay healthy, and Billy Edwards Jr. fell into that trend, unfortunately. His time with the Badgers ended almost as soon as it began, and now he’s back in the transfer portal.
So where will he land?
Virginia
The Virginia native could take over for Chandler Morris at Virginia. The Cavaliers won 11 games for the first time in school history under Tony Elliott, and they head into the 2026 season with plenty of excitement.
Edwards gives them a different skillset than Morris, but one that would keep their offense in position to succeed again. Edwards’ 2024 season had people buzzing about him, but an injury early in 2025 diminished the excitement. A new home might be what he needs.
ECU
Katin Houser’s departure put the Pirates potentially in the market for a new quarterback. If they’re set on Chaston Ditta, then Edwards won’t be an option. The freshman started in the bowl game for the Pirates, but will it be enough to convince the staff he’s ready to be the full-time starter?
North Carolina
After a poor season offensively, it’s obvious that the Tar Heels need an upgrade at the quarterback position. With Bobby Petrino reportedly taking over as offensive coordinator, it’s clear they need a player who makes the offense more of a vertical threat.
Edwards has the frame and arm talent to give the Tar Heels what they need at the position. Petrino did wonders with Taylen Green the last two seasons, and Edwards has a skillset that could thrive in his system.
James Madison
Thanks to a mass exodus in the transfer portal and a new coaching staff, the Dukes need a solution at the quarterback position. New head coach Billy Napier worked with talented quarterbacks in the past, and Edwards could benefit from his tutelage.
Edwards’ potential makes him appealing to Power Four programs, but Group of Five teams give him a chance to start right away. If that’s what he wants, James Madison also allows him to return home to play college football.
Penn State
New head coach Matt Campbell takes over at Penn State, and rebuilding the roster will be his top priority. The Nittany Lions’ offense needs retooling, and the quarterback position is high on his list.
Penn State’s struggles offensively stem from more than just the quarterback, but adding the right player could solve most of its problems. Edwards has the potential to start at Penn State, but it comes down to how well Campbell feels he fits. Add the right wide receiver talent, and they could be the surprise team of 2026.
