The cancellation represents a seismic shift in what many considered a foregone conclusion. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, LSU had maintained an impressive 86.5% chance of landing Brown since last spring.
The Tigers appeared to be cruising toward securing the crown jewel of Louisiana’s 2026 recruiting class. Brown has regularly been on LSU’s sidelines during home games throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
But everything changed following Brown’s official visit to Texas A&M last weekend. The 6 foot 3.5, 285-pound defensive lineman posted a cryptic message on social media that sent recruiting insiders scrambling: “Think this one close the book…”. The timing of this post, coupled with his decision to cancel the LSU visit, has many believing Texas A&M may have delivered the knockout punch in this recruiting battle.

“Five-star has been leaning to A&M and may have taken the final step,” noted Adam Gorney, National Recruiting Director for Rivals.com, in response to Brown’s social media post.

Brown’s recruitment journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Ranked as the No. 1 athlete in the 2026 class and the top prospect in Louisiana, he is also nationally ranked as ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit.
Initially recruited as an offensive lineman, Brown has made it clear he wants to play defense at the collegiate level. “It really came down to me deciding to play defensive line in college. A lot of schools wanted me to play offensive line, but those four schools were the ones recruiting me the hardest as a defensive lineman,” Brown told On3’s Chad Simmons.
