“It was a great experience, just getting to know some of the other recruits and spending quality time with the coaches and current players, it was great to learn more about the school and what it would really be like to go there,” Fitzgerald explained to Irish Sports Daily.
During his visit, the wide receiver prospect also shared a moment with members of the Notre Dame staff, including Head Coach Marcus Freeman, receivers coach Mike Brown, and current members of the Notre Dame roster.
“We have a great relationship, and we went over some of the drills he uses in practice with the receivers. He told me what he did with (Jaden) Greathouse and how he developed him,” Fitzgerald shared his experience with Freeman.

Throughout this latest recruitment window, following Notre Dame’s heartbreaking loss in the College Football Playoff National Championship to Ohio State, Freeman revealed that his side’s run in the playoffs has boosted their reputation when it comes to recruitment.
According to ESPN Rankings, the Fighting Irish have been knocking it out of the park this offseason under Freeman. They currently rank third overall in 2026 recruitment, behind Ohio State and USC.

Freeman has also taken a more hands-on approach to swaying prospects, hosting all the official visitors at his house for food and games. Fitzgerald revealed that it gave him the opportunity to embrace his competitive side and bond with potential future teammates.
“His house was amazing. The food was great. We shot some hoops and got on the golf simulator. It was just time to bond with the guys and just see like how much fun you could have there,” the wide receiver prospect revealed.
While Notre Dame’s efforts were undoubtedly a success, Fitzgerald revealed that his visit to the Fighting Irish was both insightful and emotional. He undertook the legacy walk and imagined himself in a packed-out Notre Dame stadium.
However, the 2026 prospect still has to visit North Carolina next weekend before finally announcing his commitment on July 5. It’s looking possible that he might be applying his trade under Freeman next season.
