Cashius Howell’s NFL Draft Potential

At 6’2″, 249 pounds, with sub-31″ arms, Cashius Howell’s size will undoubtedly take him off some teams’ boards. But for teams who employ rush OLBs in odd and hybrid alignments, Howell has plenty of appeal as a dynamic pass-rush catalyst. He carries the seventh-highest PFSN EDGE Impact rating this year with a score of 86.2, and has a terrific PFF pressure rate of 21.5%. While his size gets in the way in 1-on-1 contact situations, Howell is a smart and explosive pass-rusher with a deep bag of moves and the hyper-elite agility and bend to keep tackles guessing and grasping while staying balanced.

CFB Week 9 Update

Week 9 was particularly fruitful for Howell, who notched two sacks on the hapless Garrett Nussmeier — both with his signature ghost move, using his speed and bend to get around the apex untouched. Howell has now matched his career-high sack total of 9.5 — previously set at Bowling Green. He did this against SEC competition, and Texas A&M still has four games left in the regular season. Howell’s outlier size profile will prompt some tough conversations leading up to April, but there’s no denying Howell is a potentially special designated pass-rusher, who could thrive in a rotation when attacking on obvious passing downs.

CFB Week 10 Update

Texas A&M was on a bye in Week 10, but the Aggies will return to action in Week 11 against the ranked Missouri Tigers. It’ll be a good test for all of Texas A&M’s draft-eligible talent, as Missouri is especially strong in the trenches.

CFB Week 11 Update

Howell once again found himself on the stat sheet with a sack in Week 11: A phenomenal arc-running display on which Green used his bristling speed to beat Cayden Green to the apex, before reducing his surface area and cornering to get inside the pocket. Past that point, he used his wicked body control and playmaking motor to contort his arm inside and punch out the ball just as the QB pulled back to throw, forcing a fumble.

Outside of his speed, Howell’s speed-to-power and run defense remain concerning inconsistencies in his game – but he has a true trump card with his finesse rushing ability, that will assuredly make him a desired DPR target in April.

Where Is Howell Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?

Howell currently holds the No. 75 overall rank among prospects, reflecting his standing among mid-round prospects. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 52.8 as of November 11 reflects that he is typically being selected in the second or third round.

Interestingly, his ADP is higher than his rank, suggesting that users are targeting him more aggressively than his positional ranking might indicate.

Users controlling the Buffalo Bills have been the team that selected Howell the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 1.3% of their picks across all seven rounds.
