Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed in December that Kyler Murray was sidelined indefinitely by a lingering foot injury. It was a straightforward announcement, clinical even, but its implications are anything but. With Murray’s short-term future now sealed, the organization is left staring down a much larger, more uncomfortable question: Is this also the beginning of the end?
PFSN Predicts Cardinals to Select 96-TD QB in 2026 NFL Draft
The timing says a lot. Free agency opens March 11. The NFL draft follows in April. And hovering over it all is the sense that the Arizona Cardinals may soon need to imagine life at quarterback, a role that once symbolized their reset. That has begun to shape outside projections, including one that points Arizona toward a new face under center.
According to PFSN, the team is projected to select Carson Beck in the upcoming selection process. It is the kind of prediction that doesn’t scream inevitability, but lingers all the same, growing louder the longer Murray’s future remains unresolved.
“After Carson Beck’s impressive run in the college football season, teams like the Cardinals should seriously consider taking a chance on the 6-foot-4 quarterback. He has demonstrated solid production at two of college football’s top programs: Georgia and Miami (FL). His experience and leadership qualities are likely to attract coaches during interviews,” PFSN’s prediction reads.
At Georgia, Beck learned early what it meant to wait. Arriving in 2020, he was buried in a crowded quarterback room, watching more than playing. When his opportunities came, they were brief. But they added up. By 2023, Beck was a steady hand guiding a powerhouse program through the SEC.
That season, he took Georgia to a 12-1 record, throwing for 3,941 yards and accounting for 28 total touchdowns. Then came the detour. An injury late in the 2024 SEC Championship Game changed everything, leading to elbow surgery and an uncertain future. Instead of rushing toward the NFL, Beck transferred to Miami, betting on himself one more time.
The payoff came. At Miami, Beck played the best football of his career, throwing for 3,813 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. He had 62 yards on the ground with two scores and one additional receiving TD. He took the Hurricanes through the College Football Playoff.
By the end of his collegiate career, Beck had thrown 96 total touchdowns (88 passing + seven rushing + one receiving) across two programs.
At Arizona, stability has been elusive. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in November that many around the league believe the Cardinals and Murray are heading toward a split, with one source saying that “a separation is imminent.” As Murray’s future drifts further into question, the idea of Beck stepping into the desert sun no longer feels speculative.
