The NFL has made it a clear initiative to make the sport a global phenomenon. With increasing matches taking place overseas in a variety of locations, the global expansion is in full effect. However, a huge step forward is going to be the potential introduction of flag football as an Olympic event.
While the alternate version of football isn’t wholly common, its popularity has soared in recent years, with the Pro Bowls also adopting it to some extent. But, Team USA will need a roster to compete with other nations, and one safety already has the perfect squad in mind, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Camryn Bynum Breaks Down Lamar Jackson-Led Roster for the Olympics
Flag football is slated to be a discretionary event at the 2028 Olympics. A variation to the gridiron football that we are all familiar with, flag football ensures that contact is minimized between players, with the removal of a flag from the ball carrier signalling a down.
And Camryn Bynum, who joined the Indianapolis Colts this season after four years with the Minnesota Vikings, has a roster in mind that could secure the gold medal for Team USA.
Speaking to Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show, Bynum had a clear idea of the kind of players he wanted on the team. “Lamar Jackson at quarterback ’cause nobody’s catching him. I’d say Tyreek Hill [because] the smallest players are the best flag football players in the world.”
Additionally, both Adams and Bynum believe speed is a key component to elevating the success of the team. “I’d say Justin Jefferson on offense.” But the major question was the side he personally excels in.

“Defense? I have to go, like, I’ll put myself because I want a gold medal and I’m going all corners. I’m taking Jalen Ramsey and Pat Surtain.” Both Ramsey and Surtain were near the top of the Defensive Player of the Year race in 2024, with the latter taking home the award.
Their combination of speed and the ability to remain attached to their mind would be the perfect combination for ensuring that there isn’t much space for the ball carriers to take off, making deflagging relatively easy.
“Just people that can lock up,” Bynum explained his reasoning. “That’s the game of flag football. You got to play man.”
While his chances of making the roster for ’28 are a few years down the road, Bynum was one of the key pickups for the Colts this offseason after barely missing out on the playoffs last year.
Signed to a four-year, $60 million contract, expectations are going to be high for him to elevate Indianapolis back into the postseason. While 2024 was a bit of a regression from the previous season, the Colts and Bynum himself will be hoping to go back to his 2023 level.
