‘It Went Real Good’ — Cam Ward Opens Up About His First Impressions of Cleveland Brass at 2025 NFL Combine

Miami Hurricanes top dog Cam Ward had a great first interaction with the Cleveland Browns brass at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, Feb. 28. He is one of the star QB prospects heading into the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft along with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

He was expected to participate in the drills and workouts at the Lucas Oil Stadium, but he opted not to. He claimed that his tape over the last five years should be more than sufficient and intends to work out during Miami’s Pro Day.

Cam Ward Speaks About His First Interactions at the NFL Combine

The Cleveland Browns happened to be one of the first batch of teams that interacted with Ward. He was quite elated after the discussion and took to the podium to share his experience.

“It went real good being able to meet with the GM [Andrew Berry], finally meet the quarterback coach [Bill Musgrave] in person, and the OC [Tommy Rees] as well,” Ward said to the reporters on Feb. 28 after his meeting.

“They do an unbelievable job on offense, getting people open. They’ve got an unbelievable offensive line. Jerry Jeudy, one of the best receivers in the league, so if I’m hoping to go there, I know it’ll work out good,” he added.

The 22-year-old believes in playing from the pocket rather than rushing, unlike other dual-threat QBs. One of his breakout abilities is slinging the ball with precision.

“I think my best trait is winning from the pocket,” Ward said, per SI. “I got better at that over my years of college, and at the end of the day, as a quarterback, you can’t rely on scramble drill and having to win out of structure because if you can’t win in the pocket, you’ll never be successful.”

He continued, sharing what he thinks makes his game special from the rest of the pack.

“I think just what separates me from everybody is the way I approach it,” Ward said. “The mindset that I have going onto the field each and every game, and I mean, coming from my journey, not a lot of people can do that, and so I just think it shows the work that I’m willing to put in whether I go first round or second round. At the end of the day, that draft pick doesn’t mean nothing.”

Last season, Ward recorded 4,313 passing yards and scored 39 touchdowns while only throwing seven interceptions. He is expected to go off the draft boards as a top pick in April.
