In the world of internet virality, even the slightest misstep can echo louder than a personal best. That’s exactly what happened when former HBCU athlete and TikTok influencer Ashton Hall faced off YouTuber iShowSpeed in a race that drew millions of views.
What followed was a public roasting from none other than NFL MVP Cam Newton, who held nothing back in critiquing Hall’s performance and persona.

Cam Newton Roasts Ashton Hall After Loss to iShowSpeed
The moment unfolded during Newton’s podcast, “4th&1,” where he and co-host Omari “Peggy” Collins took direct aim at Hall’s failure to win any of the four races against Speed. The internet had already seen the loss go viral, but Newton sharpened the blow with brutal commentary. “We are living in a day and age where you gonna have to put up or shut up,” Newton said.
Collins chimed in, “Boy, and they gonna figure you out.”
Newton acknowledged Hall’s notable physique, but quickly dismissed it as irrelevant when it came to performance.
“But if you claiming that you fast, fast, they don’t got no weight limit in track … If you fast, you fast, no matter how many biceps, triceps, gluteus maximus … quads,” he said. Collins added the punchline: “If you fast, you fast, no matter the mass.”
Hall, often dubbed “Routine Man” online, rose to fame for his ultra-disciplined lifestyle videos, which document him waking at 3 a.m., dunking his face in water, and rubbing banana peels on his skin.
His content sparked viral trends and even landed him in marketing campaigns, including a notable NFL promo with the Jacksonville Jaguars. But on the track, Newton suggested that all of Hall’s routine counted for little.
“All that working out, man, y’all just … stick to your routine, homeboy … stay the course, keep taping your mouth,” Newton said.
Collins added humorously, “Dump your face in water.”
The tension escalated further as Newton highlighted how iShowSpeed wasn’t just faster, but more vocal in his dominance. “Speed was talking greasy to that guy … ‘Your image is tarnished, you ain’t nothing, you slow,’” Newton recalled.
“Girlfriend, baby mama, a wife, a homeboy, daddy, ain’t gonna save you in that war.”

Despite his losses, Hall’s willingness to continue racing showcased his competitive spirit. Yet Newton framed the outcome bluntly, branding Hall “a show pony.”
Though harsh, Newton’s commentary underlined a growing reality in social media stardom. Looks, routines, and virality can only carry you so far. Eventually, you have to perform.
