Legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather has stolen the spotlight after he was alleged to have written a bad check to buy a $200,000 watch from a luxury resale store in Nevada. The formerly retired boxer is facing two felony charges as a result, and his case is scheduled for a September hearing.
Cam Newton Questions Floyd Mayweather’s Legacy After Felony Charges
During Wednesday’s segment of the “4th and 1” podcast, former NFL MVP Cam Newton questioned Mayweather’s legacy due to his pending felony charges. Newton highlighted the boxer’s lavish lifestyle as the reason for his downfall.
“So, I’m trying to tell you, it’s not even a trick, but how did you fumble that, brother?” Newton said. “Now, Floyd, you’ve touched so much money, brother. I’m still a fan, brother. But it’s hard for people not to question your legacy from that.”
“We always ridicule the likes of a Mike Tyson, an Evander Holyfield, a Don King,” he added. “But we don’t have nobody to hold us accountable to say, ‘Hey dog, why would you spend so much money on the same car?’ What sense does that make?… We’re talking about sense with an S, while we should be talking about cents with a C.”
Newton continued and said, “A lot of people always think, man, when a lot of money comes in, that means a lot of money should go out. No. Self-preservation rules the nation. It’s not about what’s being made. It’s about what can you sustain from what’s been made.”

Alongside his felony charges in Nevada, Mayweather was also sued in New York for failure to pay rent at a Manhattan apartment this year.
The Boxing Writers’ Association of America’s 2010s fighter of the decade has not been far from the headlines, filing a lawsuit in the Big Apple against his former business manager, Jona Rechnitz, and Frist Apex Ventures for perpetuating a multi-year, $175 million fraud scheme on him.

Off the ring, Mayweather is being sued by CSI Entertainment for breach of contract, therefore holding up his exhibition fight against Greek Kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Athens, Greece, on June 27.
The company claimed that it paid Mayweather an advance of $4.65 million for exclusive rights to the boxer’s blockbuster fights against Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao, before he breached that contract by agreeing to fight Zambidis under a different promoter.
In addition, they claim in the lawsuit that Mayweather signed a deal with a different company to stream his fight with Pacquiao, which was in breach of the contract that he signed with CSI.
U.S. District Court Judge Vernon S. Broderick is set to decide whether Mayweather’s fight against Zambidis will proceed. DAZN, which was originally set to offer the fight on pay-per-view, withdrew the event from its schedule, further complicating Mayweather’s post-retirement activities.
