Despite Indiana superstar Fernando Mendoza leading the 2026 NFL Draft at quarterback, experts aren’t convinced about the depth of the position. Questions linger about Mendoza’s ability to be a franchise quarterback, and the rest of the prospects at the position lag further behind in terms of NFL-readiness. With that, people are already excited about the 2027 quarterback class.
Ex-NFL MVP Cam Newton Hypes Up Loaded 2027 QB Class
The fact that the New Orleans Saints, who ran Tyler Shough under center in 2025, aren’t expected to go after a quarterback in this draft says a lot. The most any team seeking a shot-caller could get out of this draft is a developmental player who could either be a hit or a miss as a future star.
As such, former MVP Cam Newton is already looking forward to the 2027 class, highlighting names such as Arch Manning and Julian Sayin as future stars.
“The decision for Arch Manning to go back to Texas now can potentially make the 2027 quarterback class better than we have ever seen,” he said on “4th&1.” “It was an aggressive take to say Arch Manning was to blame, but what Arch Manning really did was bolster potentially the greatest quarterback draft ever in the history of drafts.”
Manning’s decision to return to college certainly has major implications, not only for the NFL draft but also for the college landscape.
First and foremost, the 2026 class is a future star poorer because of his move. Secondly, it shakes up the 2026 Heisman race and national championship debate.
While quarterbacks like Dante Moore, LaNorris Sellers, and others were expected to lead the charge, an experienced Manning could make things even more interesting to set up a highly anticipated 2027 draft.
“You have Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss, LaNorris Sellers, Julian Sayin — those guys are loaded!” Newton exclaimed.
He continued to name what he thought had been the greatest and worst quarterback classes in history, which he thought fell short of what the 2027 class will be.
“The best draft class ever, in my honest opinion, in the last 20 years… [The best QB class was] 2020,” he added. “Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love — last but not least, Jalen Hurts… The worst — 2007. JaMarcus Russell, No. 1. Brady Quinn went No. 22. And Kevin Kolb went 36.”
While Newton is very optimistic about the 2027 class, it remains to be seen how things pan out. As 2025 taught us, a lot can change when it comes to the draft-board leaders.
