Another week, another less-than-ideal game from the Miami Dolphins. While the performance was far better for them than their Week 1 showdown against the Indianapolis Colts, going blow for blow against a New England Patriots team that is yet to find its identity spelled disaster for the organization. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the blame came down to their quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
After being blown out against the Colts, the league leader in completion percentage last season had a rough go against the Patriots, particularly near the end of the game. With victory in the balance, he was unable to deliver consistently. As a result, the Dolphins fan base was fed up and called for the franchise to immediately trade him.
Fans Turn Sour on Tua Tagovailoa
It’s been a roller coaster ride for Tagovailoa over the last few years. After injury concerns plagued his entire tenure, an excellent 2023 campaign paved the way for Miami to give him a massive four-year extension worth $212 million.
Injuries ravaged him throughout the 2024 season, and retirement was considered a possible option. However, Tagovailoa fought through and returned to the field at the start of 2025. Unfortunately, his performance didn’t turn the Dolphins around.
After an excruciating Week 1 performance, things didn’t get much better in Week 2. Trying to take a major advantage in the division, Miami came up short against New England, eventually losing 33-27.
Tagovailoa, judging by his stat line, had an outright excellent game. Completing 26 of his 32 passing attempts, he had 315 yards through the air, while recording two touchdowns. However, the six incompletions came at the worst possible moments, as Miami could not put the game away.
Fans were fed up with the lack of results from their franchise and put all the blame on the quarterback. One immediately called him, “Worst qb in the league,” as another’s frustrations were crystal clear when he wrote, “God damn Tua.”

With a chance to take a potentially game-sealing lead in the fourth quarter with a little over two minutes left, Tagovailoa threw an interception that essentially signalled the end of the game. Fans were justifiably angry, with one immediately ranting, “After he air mailed a wide open Tyreek. Only passes he completes are RB check downs.”

It even brought out a classic meme as one fan wrote, “Tua TurnDaBallOver.” One fan was particularly brutal, while being absolutely hilarious. With video circulating of the phrase “Fire Grier Fire McDaniel” flying over Hard Rock Stadium, he rebutted, “Should’ve said trade Tua.”

He wasn’t the only one with that conclusion. Other fans shared similar sentiments as one exclaimed, “TRADE TUA!!!!! @MiamiDolphins.” But for others, the removal of Tagovailoa wouldn’t be enough to turn the franchise around.

As one fan simply wrote, “Hope we fire everyone and trade/cut Tua,” another gave a detailed plan. “Fire Chris Grier. Fire Mike McDaniel. Trade Tua for a bucket of water. Trade T Hill for a 2nd. START OVER.”

Calls for firing McDaniel were already making the rounds after Week 1. Coming off a players-only meeting during the week, Miami’s performance improved significantly from the start of the season.
However, ultimately ending in a heartbreaking defeat, it might not be long before the Dolphins undergo major changes from top to bottom.
