Calls Mount for Dolphins to ‘Bench’ Tua Tagovailoa As Fans Are Fed Up With QB’s ‘Trash’ Performances

After another rough outing that resulted in a loss, fans are calling for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to be benched.

Another week, another disappointing outing for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. While he was able to drive the Dolphins down for a game-leading touchdown, the defense could not reciprocate the effort as the Los Angeles Chargers moved down the field with ease to kick the game-winning field goal.

Although a long shot after the Chargers regained the lead on a 33-yard field goal with five seconds left, Tagovailoa didn’t do himself any favors on Miami’s final play, throwing his third interception. Fans sounded off with another terrible 2025 performance in the books, asking for Tagovailoa to be benched.

Fans Call for Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa To Be Benched

The Week 6 game was full of storylines as Tagovailoa and Chargers QB Justin Herbert were drafted fifth and sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Although both have had their struggles in their six-year careers, Herbert is on the up under Jim Harbaugh, while Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel are struggling to find success.

If there was ever a game to show up and prove the doubters wrong, it was today. Instead, Tagovailoa completed 21 of 32 passes for 205 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He now has 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions on the season.

Fans lit up the Dolphins starting quarterback, with this fan letting out his frustrations after the subpar performance, saying, “Put Tua on the bench now @MiamiDolphins, You are 1-4. Bench him now.”

Another fan exclaimed, “Tua is f****** trash. Please bench him. He’s killing us. Someone else suggested seeing what offseason acquisition Zach Wilson could do, saying, “[I’d] rather see what Zach can do at this point, and Tua can’t be mad.”

Meanwhile, others took to social media to say one of the new “nicknames” the Dolphins quarterback has been given due to his struggles protecting the football, as this fan posted, “Tua Turnthaballova,” after Tagovailoa’s first interception on the Dolphins’ opening drive.

The sentiment was rampant as many felt the same, with one fan saying, “Tua blows, time to move on.”

It’s rough to see after the Dolphins and Tagovailoa agreed to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $167 million in guaranteed money. Miami is stuck, as even if they wanted to move on, Tagovailoa has a $99.2 million dead cap hit in 2026.

If Miami is going to “move on,” it will be with Tagovailoa on the bench until the 2027 offseason at the very least. However, it will be interesting to see if McDaniel makes the move in an effort to preserve his job.
