Caleb Lomu is an offensive tackle from Utah who is ranked No. 9 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes Lomu’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects.
Caleb Lomu’s NFL Draft Potential
Caleb Lomu falls below Mauigoa on my Top 100, but because Mauigoa might ultimately translate better inside at guard, Lomu is the top pure OT prospect on my board. At 6’6″, 304 pounds, Lomu is a bit lighter and leaner than preferred, but he brings countless positive qualities to the table as a two-phase blocker. One could argue he’s the safest OT in the 2026 NFL Draft.
While Lomu has room to add mass to his frame, he’s a quantifiably elite athlete with swarming lateral explosion and range off the snap. He reaches landmarks with ease as a puller and can execute high-difficulty reach blocks with his combined range and fluidity, and in 2025, he’s improved his ability as a finisher. Lomu has always been an assignment-sound, dutiful run blocker, but his chief specialty is his pass protection.
A smooth, fleet-footed mover with superb synergistic feel, Lomu boasts unfettered loyalty to the “wide base, tight hands” mantra. He has excellent mirroring ability and angle IQ, staying square to rushers and modulating his hip alignment while matching to the apex, and he’s a well-versed independent hand technician who can gather rushers with fast punches while keeping sync.
All this, and we haven’t discussed Lomu’s best trait: His flexibility. Lomu’s hyper-elite flexibility serves as an invaluable corrective failsafe for leverage acquisition, achieving controlled lean, absorbing and re-channeling power, and recovering positioning. Overall, aside from his weight, play strength, and occasional over-sets, Lomu presents as an ultra-safe OT with exciting universal schematic upside.
CFB Week 9 Update
Utah absolutely obliterated Colorado in Week 9, and Caleb Lomu was a big part of it. The Utes rushed for a whopping 423 yards, and more than a few times, they relied on Lomu’s enhanced run blocking abilities up front to clear open lanes.
Lomu showed off his ability to hinge his hips around and seal off interior linemen and second-level linebackers after reaching landmarks, and he displayed swarming range working across the line and hitting his marks as a puller. With Lomu’s run blocking and physical edge taking an extra step, there’s nothing stopping him from potentially locking down the pure OT1 mantle.
CFB Week 10 Update
Once again, the Utes’ tackles dominated in Week 10, and Lomu was at his best in both phases of the game. As a pass protector, Lomu was a certified bouncer — using active feet and hands to direct edge rushers out of plays. And as a run blocker, he was equally efficient and powerful, reaching pulling and second-level landmarks with ease, while using his newfound driving power and rotational torque to nullify defenders at contact.
Lomu has always been a stalwart pass protector, but his rejuvenation as a run blocker and true displacing force has solidified his standing as a leading OT1 contender. And if he keeps up this level of play, it’ll be hard to unseat him from that title on my board.
