‘Very Reminiscent of Bo Nix’ — Jets QB Cade Klubnik Draws Bold Comparison to Broncos Star After Day 3 Draft Pick

Cade Klubnik draws bold comparisons to Bo Nix as the New York Jets fourth-round draft pick could evolve into a legitimate starter.

When the New York Jets selected former Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, they didn’t just add depth to their roster; they took a calculated swing at a player with undeniable upside.

While Klubnik enters the league with plenty to prove, the former five-star recruit is drawing high praise, with some analysts seeing flashes of current Denver Broncos starter Bo Nix in his game.

Evaluating Cade Klubnik’s Upside With the New York Jets

According to PFSN’s NFL Draft HQ, Klubnik landed as the No. 3 overall quarterback in the class and the 176th-ranked prospect overall, earning a solid Prospect Score of 77.43.

During his collegiate career, he became one of the more prolific passers in college football, throwing for over 10,000 yards. The traits that made him a dynamic college player are exactly what caught the attention of scouts and evaluators.

“Even though he’s not the prototypical guy, I think he has enough arm strength, the arm elasticity, the angle freedom is really strong,” noted PFSN draft analyst Ian Cummings on the Day 3 episode of “Football Debate Club.” “Working even against his dominant hand, I think the angle freedom, the arm elasticity, the off-platform freedom is very reminiscent of Bo Nix.”

This assessment aligns perfectly with his PFSN scouting report, which describes Klubnik as an “electric point guard-style passer” with dynamic athleticism and universal off-platform throwing ability. However, the transition to the professional level won’t be without its hurdles.

Klubnik’s 2025 senior season showed a notable regression, from a B- and a ranking of ninth in 2024 to a C+ and a ranking of 67th, according to his PFSN CFB QB Impact Metric score. This raised questions about his consistency as a field general.

Fellow PFSN analyst Jacob Infante pointed out that physical limitations are also a significant factor in his draft stock.

“You’re not looking at the strongest arm in the world. You’re not looking at the biggest quarterback in the world,” Infante said. “Obviously, you see the measurements, 207 pounds, he’s a little bit skinnier for the position. You want to see him bulk up… If you take in so many hits, that’s a skinnier frame. You’re worried about durability potentially.”

Beyond his frame, the mental aspect of the game will heavily dictate Klubnik’s ultimate ceiling.

“QBs is about processing info,” Cummings explained. “If you’re going to be considered as a starter, you need to pass a certain threshold as a processor. When the picture speeds up over the middle of the field with so many overlapping elements, you need to be able to parse through that. I think he needs a little bit more time behind the scenes to cook that part of his game.”

Fortunately for Klubnik, New York provides an optimal environment for his development. Slated to learn behind veteran Geno Smith, the young signal-caller will have the luxury of time to adjust to the pro game.

“I do like the Jets making a move for a young quarterback to sit under Geno Smith,” Infante added, remaining optimistic after previously ranking Klubnik as his preseason QB1 alongside Fernando Mendoza. “Take a swing at a guy in the fourth round; if it doesn’t work, so be it. I think he can still be a solid backup.”

While there are still pieces needed to fill the puzzle, Klubnik has enough physical talent to warrant the investment. If he can refine his situational accuracy and post-snap discernment, this Day 3 pick could eventually evolve into a legitimate NFL starter.
