Buy Low, Sell High: Fantasy football trade targets for Week 12 include Russell Wilson and David Montgomery

Following an exciting Week 11 in the NFL, who are some buy-low and sell-high options for fantasy football ahead of Week 12?

Never get complacent — always look to improve your fantasy roster. With that in mind, let’s take a look at which fantasy football players are buy-low and sell-high candidates entering Week 12.

*Most leagues have their trade deadlines in the next week or two. Going forward, consider this article as a guide to which players you can expect to improve and which will decline.

Which players should you buy low heading into Week 12?

As we enter the home stretch of the fantasy regular season, managers are either trying to make that last push for the playoffs or setting their rosters up for the postseason. Entering Week 12, which undervalued players should fantasy managers consider acquiring for a reduced price?

    Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

This one comes with a big caveat surrounding Russell Wilson’s finger. If you believe his finger is to blame for his recent struggles and that it will remain a problem all season, stay away from him. I’d be willing to roll the dice on getting an elite quarterback for pennies on the dollar if I can.

Wilson hasn’t thrown a touchdown since returning from injury. He’s also faced two tough defenses in the Packers and Cardinals.

Seattle’s schedule is really about to open up. The Seahawks face Washington, San Francisco, and Houston the next three weeks. They have a tough Week 15 game against the Rams but close out the fantasy season with home games against Chicago and Detroit.

If Wilson can’t exploit this extremely favorable upcoming schedule, I’m willing to go down with that ship. See if you can’t poach Wilson from a frustrated manager ahead of Week 12.

    David Montgomery, RB, Chicago Bears

Anyone following my takes for the past couple of years knows I am no fan of David Montgomery as a talent. However, I am not here to assess talent. I’m here to assess fantasy value, and Montgomery is currently undervalued.

Since returning from the injured reserve, Montgomery has underwhelmed. He’s scored 17.7 PPR fantasy points in his last two games combined. He’s also faced the Steelers and Ravens. It’s about to get much better for Chicago’s running back. The Bears get the Lions on Thanksgiving, followed by the Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, Seahawks, and Giants. Only Green Bay is an unfavorable matchup.

Montgomery is a player worth buying low, if possible, as he has the potential to be a high-end RB2 during the most important weeks of the fantasy season.

Who can you sell high in Week 12?

Fantasy managers tend to be very reactionary when it comes to what happened recently. This player is coming off a strong Week 11 performance but may have higher perceived value than actual value going forward. That makes him a candidate to be sold high — if you can get solid value.

    Stefon Diggs, WR, Buffalo Bills

It goes without saying that Stefon Diggs is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Unfortunately, the Bills just look broken. This is not the same elite Buffalo offense we’re accustomed to seeing. Diggs has been on quite the tear with at least 14.5 fantasy points in five consecutive games. However, he’s only had two games over 20 fantasy points all season, and Buffalo’s schedule is about to take a turn for the worse.

Diggs may have a nice outing against the Saints’ pass funnel defense next week. After that, the Bills get the Patriots and Bucs before facing the Panthers and Patriots in the two most important weeks of the fantasy season.

If you make it to the fantasy championship, you’ll be rewarded with a favorable matchup against the Falcons. But getting there with Diggs as your WR1 may be a challenge. He feels more like a WR2 than a WR1 the rest of the way. If you can split Diggs into two parts greater than him or get an RB1 or WR1 for him, it would behoove you to do so. Just don’t give him up for the sake of selling him. Diggs is not going to hurt you by being on your team.

*I prefer to have two names in each section, but after scouring league results from Week 11 and assessing upcoming schedules, I just couldn’t find a second name. I do not want to include a second player I don’t actually believe is a sell-high option just for the sake of doing so. Be sure to check back next week as the NFL has a way of balancing things out.
