Bills’ Playoff Scenarios: Can Buffalo Still Make the Postseason or Win AFC East?

The Bills have impressed behind Josh Allen, but a playoff berth isn’t locked in yet. Here’s Buffalo’s updated chance of reaching January football in Week 14.

The Buffalo Bills may have briefly surrendered the AFC East lead to the New England Patriots, but their win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13 brought clarity and renewed momentum to their postseason push. Heading into Week 14, Buffalo remains firmly in the mix for both a playoff berth and a potential late surge to reclaim the division crown.

What Are the Bills’ Playoff Chances?

At 8-4, the Bills remain firmly positioned in the AFC playoff picture, a stark contrast to fellow conference powerhouses like the Baltimore Ravens (6-6) and Kansas City Chiefs (6-6), both of whom have stumbled through the chaotic 2025 NFL season.

However, with losses to the C.J. Stroud-less Houston Texans and the Miami Dolphins on their resume, their week-to-week variance has been impossible to predict. With Josh Allen turning into a rollercoaster again, their year could hinge on how he performs in the closing stretch of the season.

This year, Allen has four games with two or more turnovers, all but one of which have resulted in an ugly loss for Buffalo. After it seemed like he’d fixed his turnover problems last year (6 in 17 games), he’s once again become prone to mistakes (12 in 12 games).

Catching the Patriots (11-2) in the AFC East will be a steep challenge, especially with New England holding the tiebreaker. According to PFSN’s Playoff Predictor, the win over the Bengals in Week 14 keeps a slim path alive at 14.4%.

Playoff odds look far brighter. Buffalo entered Week 14 with an 86.20% chance of making the postseason. Beating Cincinnati pushes that number to 94.30%, essentially locking in a Wild Card berth.

It wasn’t pretty, with the Bills staring at a 28-18 deficit with eight minutes and 44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the Allen and the Bills mounted a vintage comeback to keep their divisional hopes alive.

After beating the Bengals 39-34 in Week 14, the Bills have a date with the Patriots at Gillette Stadium as New England comes out of its bye week. If both teams continue on their current trajectory, it will be imperative for Buffalo to win the Week 15 matchup if they want to keep any hope alive for the AFC East title.

Buffalo Bills Remaining 2025 Schedule

  • Week 15: Bills at Patriots
  • Week 16: Bills at Browns
  • Week 17: Bills vs. Eagles
  • Week 18: Bills vs. Jets

Chasing the Patriots will be difficult. A win next week evens the head-to-head matchup, but the matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 will not be easy. The Cleveland Browns’ defense has consistently proven itself to be a force to be reckoned with this season. If quarterback Shedeur Sanders can stay consistent, an upset is not out of the question.

Buffalo needs the Allen who won MVP in 2024, not the one who has turned the ball over 12 times this season. While there’s a lot of pressure on the QB, that’s how the Bills have built this team, and it’s now or never for Buffalo.
