Rumors suggest the Cleveland Browns are hoping to build around rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, so it’s hard to say when Shedeur Sanders will get his opportunity to shine.
One alternative is for Sanders to be traded to a team with an even less certain future at quarterback so he can potentially prove himself later in the season. Plenty of organizations have signal callers underperforming or aging out of the league, including the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
An AFC East team could be looking to kick off a rebuild in the near future, which Sanders could benefit from if he is as talented as his 2025 NFL Draft projections claimed.
Would the Miami Dolphins Be Willing To Take a Home Run Swing on Shedeur Sanders?
The Dolphins came into this season with hopes of competing for a Super Bowl but, entering their Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns, have a 1-5 record. So, they may need to hit the reset button by firing head coach Mike McDaniels and moving on from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
While McDaniels may not make it to the end of the season with the Dolphins, Tagovailoa will likely be with the team. Sanders could spend some time learning the offense from the 27-year-old Pro Bowler before finishing out the season for Miami.
This is exactly what FanSided’s Christopher Kline predicts to happen, as he believes the Dolphins could trade for Sanders in hopes he’s a franchise quarterback.
“Tagovailoa is paid too much to sit on the bench, but sooner than later, Miami will need to reset expectations and start thinking about the future,” Kline wrote. “Sanders can at least benefit from McDaniel’s slick offensive scheming for however long they both last in South Beach.”
It is almost impossible to judge Sanders’ talent level, as the only NFL tape on him is from the preseason. What is known, however, is Tagovailoa is almost certainly no longer the Dolphins’ QB of the future. Miami is ranked No. 26 in PFSN’s latest power rankings with just a 4.40% chance of reaching the postseason.
“McDaniel’s offense is built to generate quick, easy advantages for its playmakers. Sanders can hold the football too long, but McDaniel should make it easier to dial up quick passes. Plus, after such a fruitful partnership with Travis Hunter at Colorado, there’s no doubt Sanders would benefit from having Jaylen Waddle to lob it to downfield,” Kline concluded.
The trade rumors surrounding Sanders and calls for Gabriel to be benched will not end until Sanders gets his shot on an NFL team. He clearly has all the confidence a starting quarterback needs, but questions remain of whether or not he can put it all together on the field.
