Just eight minutes into the 2025 NFL Draft, the first major trade is on the board. The Jacksonville Jaguars have moved up to the No. 2 overall pick, replacing the Cleveland Browns.
Browns, Jaguars Complete Blockbuster Trade Minutes Into the NFL Draft
There were rumblings leading into draft night that big moves could be coming, and those whispers got louder as the start of the draft neared. Now, it’s official: the Browns and Jaguars have completed a blockbuster deal that reshapes the top five picks.
NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the trade.

With the second overall pick in hand, the Jaguars selected dual-threat Colorado wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter.
What Will Travis Hunter Bring to Jacksonville?
Hunter may be the most naturally gifted player in the class. His versatility and rare athleticism give Jaguars fans plenty of reason to dream.
PFSN’s Ian Cummings explained in his scouting report, “Travis Hunter enters the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the best prospects in the class, and he also profiles as one of the most intriguing players in recent memory since he legitimately qualifies as a top-five pick at two positions. He is truly a one-of-one type of NFL prospect. Hunter possesses below-average overall size and length, but offers a once-in-a-generation type of overall athleticism.
“As a wide receiver, Hunter can use his elite burst, bend, and speed to carve up coverage defenders and offer RAC dynamism, and as a cornerback, he can match, transition, blanket WRs in trail, read routes, and hawk in front of passes. His mobility profile is generational, as are his ball skills, and that combination is lethal on either side of the ball.”
All eyes are now on Jacksonville to see whether their massive draft day trade can turn the tide in Duval County. The Jaguars have not registered a double-digit win season since 2017.
2024 was especially brutal, as the Jaguars limped to a 4-13 finish despite reasonably high expectations in quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s fourth professional season.
A former No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lawrence hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. Injuries limited him in 2024, resulting in a season where he played just ten games and averaged only 204.5 yards per game, a career low.
Jaguars fans will be hoping Hunter can combine with star receiver Brian Thomas Jr., entering his second year in the NFL, to form a formidable pass-catching duo and spur Lawrence’s development into the player they hope he can be.
