Nick Chubb has spent his entire seven-year career with the Cleveland Browns after the franchise selected him 35th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The four-time Pro Bowler is coming off of the worst season of his career after suffering a season-ending torn MCL and damaged ACL in Week 2 of 2023.
He appeared in just eight games last year, rushing for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 102 carries, adding five receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. It marked the first time in Chubb’s career that he failed to average at least 5.0 yards per carry.
The one-time All-Pro entered unrestricted free agency for the first time this offseason. While he remains unsigned after the 2025 NFL Draft, a Browns insider expects that will change soon while predicting that he lands in the NFC North.
Nick Chubb Reportedly Closing In on Deal With NFC North Franchise
Nick Chubb’s tenure with the Cleveland Browns appears to be coming to an end as the running back remains unsigned more than a month into free agency. Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan recently revealed that the four-time Pro Bowler is closing in on a deal with an NFC North franchise. The Browns insider stated:
“Are we ready to say goodbye to Nick Chubb? A silence came over the room. I’ll ask it again, are we ready to say goodbye to Nick Chubb? I got to tell you guys, maybe I shouldn’t say it because it’s going to kind of cast a pall over the room.
I heard he is kind of getting close to another team that happens to be in the NFC North… All great things got to come to an end. I hope he comes back. I really do hope, but it’s looking more and more unlikely that – I think both sides are kind of ready to move on, it seems to me.”

Cleveland’s rushing attack was among the worst in the NFL last season, ranking 29th in rushing yards and 30th in rushing touchdowns. Their offense was ranked dead-last in the league, according to PFN’s Offense+ metric.
The Browns addressed the running back position in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting former Ohio State Buckeyes star Quinshon Judkins in the second round and former Tennessee Volunteers running back Dylan Sampson in the fourth round.
Their offense still has plenty of question marks as quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to miss the entire season. Free agent addition Joe Flacco, trade addition Kenny Pickett and draft picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are expected to compete for the starting role.
