Browns Announce Decision on Dillon Gabriel’s Future After Drafting Taylen Green Alongside Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns will not trade Dillon Gabriel after drafting Taylen Green, maintaining a crowded quarterback quartet in 2026.

Just one year after drafting Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, respectively, the Cleveland Browns spent even more draft capital on the position in the 2026 NFL Draft. The sixth round began with the Browns selecting Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green, an excitable player who stands in stark contrast to Gabriel.

Sanders and Gabriel were both thrust into the lineup last season, both experiencing the full slate of NFL football with highs and lows. It was ultimately Sanders who cemented himself as the starter in Week 12, a spot he held through the duration of the season. That brings us to the selection of Green and what it potentially means for Gabriel’s future.

The Browns Announce Dillon Gabriel Decision After Drafting Taylen Green

Adam Schefter noted earlier today that the team has no intention of trading Gabriel despite the selection of Green. That leaves the team with a rather interesting quartet of quarterbacks on the roster, including Deshaun Watson, who has not played since the 2024 season.

It remains to be seen what we can even expect from Watson the player following the re-rupture of his Achilles tendon prior to the 2025 season.

As we mentioned, the rookie duo had their share of both ups and downs en route to PFSN NFL QB Impact scores of 51.0 and 56.0 for Gabriel and Sanders, respectively.

Only Cincinnati’s Jake Browning and the New York Jets’ Brady Cook finished with worse QBi scores. This is a team in need of a sustained upgrade at the position that likely won’t come until the following offseason.

The divergence between Gabriel and Green generates considerable intrigue. At 6-foot-6, Green is a lanky, athletic quarterback essentially on the opposite end of the physical spectrum, given where Gabriel stands as a sub-6-footer.

Green ranked eighth among quarterbacks and 229th overall in the 2026 draft by our analysts.

Further evaluation from the group suggests “Green can catapult up boards with a strong pre-draft cycle, and has the raw physical talent of a starter, but it remains to be seen if he can handle the hastened pace of the NFL. In the right environment, with time to sit, he could grow, but his more likely outcome is that of a backup and eventual spot-starter.”

Cleveland’s selection of Green with the 182nd overall pick proved a probable rise accurate, while his skill set as a whole raises the ceiling of their quarterback room.
