While their record might not fully indicate it, the Cleveland Browns have been building out a solid roster over the last few years. After some incredible drafts, they have found depth at virtually every position, with the offensive line the latest area that they’ve potentially fixed.
However, without a true franchise quarterback at the helm, they haven’t been able to take that next step. Unfortunately, that roster building could be all for naught, as one analyst is sounding the warning bell on their best player, Myles Garrett.
Myles Garrett Could Become a Casualty of New Coaching Staff
One of the greatest defenders in modern history, Garrett has been as good as advertised and then some. A two-time Defensive Player of the Year, he’s led the Browns to two playoff appearances during his tenure.
Last season, he set the record for sacks in a single season and was the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history when he first signed his four-year, $160 million contract. However, that contract came after he had requested a trade, as he wanted to win more.
That didn’t come to pass last season either, as they only won five games. As a result, head coach Kevin Stefanski was fired, with Todd Monken stepping into the role. Now, it seems the idea of the Browns shipping out Garrett is gaining some traction again.
Nick Pedone, on “92.3 The Fan”, revealed his conclusion. “I think, and I’m fearful that there’s another shoe getting ready to drop with this Myles Garrett chapter. I just can’t shake it.” Explaining his rationale, he dove deep into the specifics.
“Because I never got a finite answer as to why they restructured that contract when they did. Nobody ever answered that question.” But that wasn’t the only reason for his skepticism around Garrett. His next target was Monken himself.
“Monken is over-the-moon excited to coach this football team,” Pedone added. “I genuinely believe that. His press conference after OTAs on Wednesday was more like a podcast than a press conference. He was not letting reporters finish their questions or finish their thoughts before he was jumping in to answer these questions.”

However, amid that excitement, Pedone played a clip of Monken revealing that he hadn’t spoken to Garrett, bereft of any excitement. “He’s tripping over himself to talk about every single last guy on the roster and your best player, your face of your organization, you still haven’t met face to face with yet? That’s fishy to me.”
It remains to be seen if all this is just smoke or if the Browns are preparing themselves for a seismic move. For the time being, the summer activities are rolling around, and on a roster that is brimming with talent, slight expectations might start to creep in for this group.
