‘I See Bronny James Getting Minutes’ — Dolphins Star Tyreek Hill Reveals Why He Can Play in the NBA

Dolphins star Tyreek Hill makes a bold NBA claim in a new interview, mentioning Bronny James and Tony Allen.

Tyreek Hill isn’t just one of the NFL’s most electrifying receivers — he believes he could also be a lockdown NBA talent.

Tyreek Hill Says He Could Lock Down NBA Stars Like a Tony Allen-Type Player

The Miami Dolphins star went online with GQ this week to field questions from fans across Reddit, X, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. His answers ranged from basketball dreams to his uncertain standing in Miami.

One fan jokingly suggested Hill put up a stat line of 84 points, 49 rebounds, and 19 steals in pickup runs. Hill didn’t back down, instead drawing a comparison to Memphis Grizzlies legend Tony Allen.

“I see Bronny James getting minutes,” Hill said. “So I really think I got a chance to get some minutes too … I can be a defensive man. I can be like a Tony Allen. Lock down your best player.”

Allen never won an NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, though he was considered one of the league’s best perimeter defenders and earned six NBA All-Defensive Team selections. Meanwhile, Bronny’s NBA career is under scrutiny, with many believing the Los Angeles Lakers drafted him out of nepotism to appease LeBron James.

Hill doubled down when asked if he’s the best hooper in the NFL, saying: “Of course … I can dunk, I can shoot, I can play defense. And plus can’t nobody guard me.”

Tyreek Hill Trade Speculation Heats Up as Teams Monitor Situation

While Hill was happy to joke about hoops, questions about his football future remain more serious. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on SportsCenter that teams are “monitoring” Hill’s status, even though Miami has repeatedly told clubs they are not shopping him.

“I have talked to a few teams who are at least monitoring his future a little bit,” Fowler said. “Could he be a potential trade target? … When I bring up, ‘Who’s a trade target you’re watching?’ – they bring up Tyreek Hill.”

For the Dolphins, moving Hill would be a massive shift. He remains their most dangerous offensive weapon and a critical piece for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is heading into a pivotal year himself.

Hill’s standing in Miami hasn’t been smooth since last winter. After the Dolphins’ Week 17 loss to the New York Jets, Hill said bluntly: “I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what’s best for my career.”

He later posted what appeared to be a goodbye message on X: “Love fin nation blessing yall opened doors for the Hill family forever nothing, but respect and love.” Hill has since apologized to Tagovailoa and the team.

That public back-and-forth, paired with an oblique injury that sidelined him during training camp, has raised real questions about his future. Tagovailoa admitted in July that rebuilding chemistry with Hill is “still a work in progress.”

Now entering his fourth season in Miami after arriving in the 2022 trade with Kansas City, Hill remains one of the league’s most accomplished receivers. The eight-time Pro Bowler finished 2024 with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns, pushing his career totals to over 11,000 yards and 82 scores.

If healthy, Hill is still one of the NFL’s most dangerous game-breakers. But with trade rumors circling and his relationship with Miami fragile, the Dolphins may soon have to decide whether their “Cheetah” is part of the future — or if his next sprint will be in another uniform.
