Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has recently revealed that things are moving “in the right direction” regarding a contract extension. In an interview with The Denver Post, Sutton revealed that he is satisfied with the progress of talks and expressed his desire to retire with the team.

Courtland Sutton Reveals Optimism Over Contract Extension
Sutton was Denver’s leading receiver by a distance in 2024 after taking on much of the extra workload vacated by Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy was traded to the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2024 season, with several young receivers on the Broncos roster waiting in the wings.
Much of the extra work went to Sutton, though, whose targets jumped from 90 in 2023 to 135 last season. With four young receivers trying and failing to break away from the chasing pack in 2024, Sutton’s importance to Denver’s passing attack was paramount.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, it appears that the team is making moves to secure their talismanic receiver. In the aforementioned interview, Sutton revealed that talks were progressing positively.
“My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up there in the front office, and I think it’s working in the right direction.” While some contract negotiations can often create friction, Sutton suggested that his positive relationship with the team has helped keep things amicable.
“Ultimately, you just want to know you’re working in the right direction. I think they see and have seen what I’ve brought to the team.” Having represented the Broncos since they selected him with the 40th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, Sutton voiced his hopes of retiring with the team.
“I’m open and optimistic about the fact that I’ll be able to be here for the rest of my career.”
Broncos Ready to Challenge in 2025
Having appeared to find their franchise quarterback in 2024, the Broncos will be looking to build a winning team around him. Eyebrows were raised when Denver drafted Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, but the rookie led the team to the playoffs with some impressive displays.
The team’s defense provided a solid foundation for its success in 2024. The Broncos have kept hold of their key pieces on that side of the ball while adding veteran difference-makers in Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga in free agency. With Evan Engram set to provide Nix with a second reliable receiving option in 2025, the team can swing for home runs in the upcoming Draft.
Sutton currently counts toward $20.2 million in 2025 cap space, and the team will likely look to get that number down as it attempts to make the most of Nix’s rookie window. If Denver can take advantage of a top running back class in the draft, there are still some top veteran receivers available in free agency.
More talent and consistency on offense could see the team challenge for it all in the coming years, with Sutton likely to be a key part of it.
