‘She’s Annoyed With Me’ – Brock Purdy Shares His Wife’s Reaction to First Big Purchase Plan After $265,000,000 Extension

The final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft just cashed in. Brock Purdy, once known as “Mr. Irrelevant,” is now the face of the San Francisco 49ers — and $265 million richer.

But even with a record-setting deal under his belt, Purdy isn’t dreaming about Ferraris or private jets. His first big splurge? Something a little more aquatic.

What Did Brock Purdy Say About His First Big Purchase?

Purdy, 25, agreed to a five-year extension with the 49ers worth $265 million, including $181 million guaranteed. The deal puts him just behind Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in guaranteed money and ahead of Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL — and firmly cementing him as a top QB.

So, what does someone with a quarter-billion-dollar contract want to buy first?

“I’ve always been a big fishing advocate,” Purdy told reporters in Santa Clara. “I was telling my wife — and she was annoyed with me — but I’d like to get a bass boat one day.”

Not exactly what you’d expect from one of the league’s newest multimillionaires. But that’s classic Purdy — humble, down-to-earth, and unfazed by the hype. Rather than buying a yacht, he just wants a bass boat.

Purdy is still the same Iowa State kid who married his college sweetheart, Jenna, and worked his way up from third-stringer to franchise cornerstone.

The couple met at Iowa State, where Jenna played volleyball as a setter. She grew up in Iowa as the oldest of four siblings: Kaylyn, Isaiah, and Morgan. She attended Sumner-Fredericksburg High School and became a kinesiology major in college.

The couple tied the knot in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 11, 2024.

Even after going from draft afterthought to Super Bowl starter, Purdy hasn’t lost the steady presence that’s defined his game. That calm demeanor has helped guide San Francisco to back-to-back deep playoff runs under Kyle Shanahan. It’s also a key reason the 49ers felt comfortable betting $265 million on their guy.

What’s Next for the 49ers and Purdy?

The 49ers have made it clear: they believe in Brock. This extension isn’t just a reward — it’s a declaration that they’re building their future around him.

Even in a league driven by flash and headline deals, Brock’s path stands out. He’s spent the last two seasons outplaying his rookie deal while proving doubters wrong. That made this new contract feel more like a well-earned correction than a shock.

Last season, Purdy ranked as the seventh-best quarterback in the league, according to PFSN’s QB+ metric (with a B+ grade of 87.6). Amazingly, this QB+ grade was actually the worst of his career, which is a testament to his consistency and strong play each season he has been under center.

Purdy ranked fifth in the league in overall EPA/DB (0.17) and fourth when playing under pressure (-0.08 EPA/DB), while sitting sixth when playing from a clean pocket (0.33 EPA/DB). Despite all the injuries around him, Purdy still averaged 8.1 nYPA (third-best) and a 44.3% conversion rate on third downs (eighth-best).

His touchdown-to-interception rate of 1.7 was a disappointment, thanks largely to his TD rate falling through the floor from 7.6 as a rookie and 7.0 in 2023 to 4.4 this season. That is not entirely on Purdy, given all the 49ers’ injuries this season, but it does paint the picture that he’s a product of the players surrounding him more so than a truly elite QB.

While Purdy and the 49ers traded Deebo Samuel Sr. to the Washington Commanders, reinforcements are on the way with Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey returning from significant injuries.

After inking Purdy to this lucrative contract, San Francisco now has quarterback stability. And even if his first big purchase turns out to be a bass boat, the investment still floats.

As for Jenna? Something tells us she might get a shopping trip of her own sometime soon.
