Brock Purdy’s On-Field NFL Production

Purdy has been one of the most statistically efficient quarterbacks in the NFL since he took over late in the 2022 NFL season. In that span he ranks:

  • First in yards per attempt (8.9)
  • First in EPA per dropback (0.21)
  • Second in success rate (52%)
  • Third in touchdown rate (6.0%)

Purdy has qualified for PFSN’s leaderboard in its QB+ metric each of the last two years. He ranked first with a 95.0 (A) grade in 2023 and was seventh with an 87.5 (B+) grade in 2024.

While he didn’t throw enough passes to qualify in 2022, his average QB+ was 80.6 across eight games. Only Patrick Mahomes (80.8), who won the NFL MVP that season, had a higher average QB+.

Purdy’s career yards per attempt average of 8.9 is the second-highest through a player’s first three seasons in NFL history (min. 500 pass attempts). He trails only Hall of Famer Kurt Warner (9.1).

Through his career, Purdy has undeniably played with great pass catchers. Roughly 41% of his career attempts have come with all of George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel Sr. on the field. However, his numbers with all three on the field aren’t very different from his numbers when at least one is off the field.

With these weapons, though, the 49ers have undoubtedly picked up plenty of yards after the catch for Purdy. Since 2022, Purdy’s average YAC per completion is 6.1 yards, second-highest behind Patrick Mahomes (6.3).

However, Purdy has also excelled throwing deep as well while not relying on yards after the catch. Since 2022, Purdy leads the NFL in completion percentage (55.8%) on throws of 15+ air yards.

The Financial Impact of a Purdy Extension

Purdy has been the best value in the NFL the last three seasons. He’s made $2.6 million in cash during his first three seasons, which ranks 94th among quarterbacks since 2022.

Every other QB in the top 10 in EPA per dropback since 2022 ranks in top 20 in cash earned in that span, and seven of the other nine QBs rank inside the top 10.

With Purdy’s extension on the books, cap space will likely be tight over the next couple of offseasons. San Francisco already has $236 million cap allocations for 2026 (the fifth most) and $220 million for 2027 (the most).

The 49ers already have several pricy salaries on their books. Now that Purdy is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, he joins several of his teammates who are also among the highest-paid players at their positions. Based on average annual value:

  • Christian McCaffrey ranks first among RBs ($19M)
  • George Kittle ranks first among TEs ($19.1M)
  • Nick Bosa ranks first among EDGEs ($34M)
  • Fred Warner ranks second among ILBs ($19M)
  • Trent Williams ranks third among OTs ($27.6M)
  • Aiyuk ranks tied for fifth among WRs ($30M)

At $53 million per year, Purdy is tied for seventh among QBs, the same average salary as Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff.

Even after this massive payday, Purdy still makes less than quarterbacks such as Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ($55 million) and Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa ($53.1 million).
