Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Speaks Up on CeeDee Lamb’s Relationship With George Pickens

Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer addresses CeeDee Lamb's relationship with newly acquired George Pickens and reveals the pair are spending a lot of time together.

The Dallas Cowboys sought a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb for much of the offseason. However, their search yielded no positive results. They did not sign a notable receiver in free agency, nor did they draft one. And then the bomb dropped. The Cowboys traded for George Pickens in a stunning deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pickens will join Lamb in Texas for the 2025 season, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer believes the pair is forming an awesome relationship during the Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

Brian Schottenheimer Details CeeDee Lamb’s Excitement About George Pickens’ Arrival

The addition of Pickens doesn’t come without risk, but the receiver’s immense talent is undeniable. He’s never too far away from a highlight-reel catch or a big play to get his team downfield, and when he scored an impressive touchdown during the OTAs recently, Lamb was throwing up his arms in excitement.

“He’s doing an incredible job of picking up the system,” Schottenheimer said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “But there was a play, and it really wasn’t anything that George did, but we were in the red zone, and we were in kind of a spread formation, and we hit him for a touchdown. Joe (Milton) did on a little bender, a little skinny post, down in the low red zone.

“CeeDee (Lamb) was on the other side. When CeeDee broke out, he looked back to see where the ball went and he saw George in the end zone kind of drag his toes. CeeDee was like, ‘Yessss!’ (throwing up his arms). I think his excitement for knowing that we’ve added some pieces, which will add to the competition, was cool to see a guy like CeeDee be excited.”

Having spent time working out with Pickens in the past, Lamb is familiar with the personality that his team has added in the former Pittsburgh receiver and per Schottenheimer, they are spending a lot of time together.

“Those two guys’ relationship is awesome,” he added. “They’re spending a lot of time together. I think it’s great for CeeDee to have someone like George. Not that George is a young player, but someone that GP really looks up to in CeeDee. They obviously have trained together. That relationship is really cool. I’m enjoying just kind of sitting back and watching it develop.”

Pickens and Lamb have the ability to dominate on the field. They could both perform like No. 1 options in the passing game once the 2025 season kicks off, and the results are the only thing Schottenheimer will be worried about. Winning games and competing for a Super Bowl have to be the main goals for this star-studded duo, as well as for Schottenheimer, who’s in his first season as the Cowboys’ head coach.

a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s Brian Schottenheimer you better hope that George Pickens doesn’t act up during the season that will cost the Cowboys games in 2025
