This weekend, emotions ran deep in Canton. Brett Favre, the gunslinger who thrilled fans for two decades, couldn’t contain his emotions watching two former adversaries finally get their gold jackets.
How Did Brett Favre React to Sterling Sharpe and Jared Allen’s Hall of Fame Induction?
Retired NFL icon Brett Favre was emotional after the 2025 NFL Hall of Fame ceremony. A Green Bay Packers legend, Favre was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. The quarterback played for 20 years, also suiting up for the Atlanta Falcons, the New York Jets, and the Minnesota Vikings.
When he retired, Favre was the NFL leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and quarterback wins. He also earned three first-team All-Pro selections. Of course, Favre remains plugged into the football world.
Active on X, the three-time NFL MVP often comments on and cheers for former teammates and new players. August began with the NFL Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
Favre shared his thoughts on X, penning a heartfelt letter for Sterling Sharpe and Jared Allen.
“What an incredible moment–congratulations to two of the best I’ve ever had the privilege to share the field with (and against): Sterling Sharpe and Jared Allen, welcome to Canton!” Favre wrote.

He thanked Sharpe first, praising him for uplifting the entire locker room.
“Sterling, you were the ultimate competitor. I was just a young quarterback when we played together in Green Bay, and you made my job easier from day one. You ran every route with precision, caught everything thrown your way, and brought an intensity that raised the entire locker room.”
Favre noted that Sharpe’s recognition was overdue, wondering how many records he could have broken if not for his career-ending neck injury. Sharpe, a 1988 draft pick, spent his entire career with the Packers and was an experienced wide receiver when Favre joined the team.
Speaking of Allen, Favre said:
“Jared–man, you were a nightmare to play against. I still remember watching film and thinking, ‘This guy does not stop.’ Relentless motor, larger-than-life personality, and a passion for the game that was obvious every snap.”
What Made Shannon Sharpe’s Reaction So Special?
Beyond Favre’s tribute, Shannon Sharpe, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011, was emotional about his brother’s recognition.
The two brothers went viral for their emotional embrace on stage. Longtime NFL fans were thrilled at the older brother’s induction. They made the most of the platform, with Sterling sharing his stage and gold jacket with Shannon.

One can only imagine what it meant for Shannon, who had used his own Hall of Fame speech to make a case for his brother’s talent. Antonio Gates and Eric Allen were the other two NFL icons honored this year.
