Brandon Aubrey has cemented himself as one of the best, most consistent kickers in the NFL over the last few years, and now he’s ready to get paid.
However, will the Dallas Cowboys give him the amount of money he’s hoping for? Aubrey told reporters on Wednesday where he stands in free agency and what’s ahead.
Brandon Aubrey Is ‘Waiting’ for the Cowboys’ Contract Saga To Resolve
Aubrey was an undrafted free agent signed by the Cowboys in 2023, and they signed him to a three-year deal worth less than $3 million. Over the last three years, he’s proven to be one of the best kickers in the NFL and wants to be paid like it now.
Aubrey is a restricted free agent in 2026, which means the Cowboys can place a second-round tender on him, and would receive a second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere.
However, both Aubrey and the Coybows want him to be in Dallas next season on a new long-term contract. That’s where it gets dicey. Aubrey wants to be the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, and most expect him to be wherever he ends up.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is currently the league’s highest-paid kicker, and he’s making $6.4 million annually. Most expect Aubrey to make more than $7 million annually. However, Aubrey admitted Wednesday that there hasn’t been much discussion lately.
“Don’t really have much going at the moment, just sitting around, waiting,” Aubrey told reporters. “So, obviously, the tender is what the Cowboys have talked about, and that’s a good problem to have.
“It’s a good amount of money. It’s a big pay raise for me from before, but it’s not the ideal for any player.”

He believes he’s the best kicker in the world — worth more than a 2nd round tender.

The second round tender would pay Aubrey over $5 million per year. The Cowboys kicker led the league in made field goals in his rookie year with 36, and he made the longest field goal of the season (65 yards) in 2024.
Aubrey made his third consecutive Pro Bowl last season, and now he hopes to set the new standard in the NFL for kickers.
“We’ll see what happens. (I’m) excited to be in this position,” Aubrey said. “It’s an opportunity for me just to be in this position, so I’m thankful for that.”
The Cowboys already placed their franchise tag on receiver George Pickens to keep him in Dallas for at least the 2026 season.
While Aubrey didn’t sound optimistic on Wednesday, optimism across the league is that Aubrey and the Cowboys will figure out his contract.
