The Buffalo Bills are continuing to reshape their organization following the firing of Sean McDermott and promotion of Joe Brady. With a new head coach now in place, the Bills’ coaching staff is undergoing changes. One position coach is headed south but staying in the division.
Jahmile Addae’s Exit Adds to Defensive Staff Turnover in Buffalo
Buffalo’s cornerbacks coach, Jahmile Addae, is leaving Buffalo to join the Miami Dolphins in the same role, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The move comes as the Bills undergo a broader staff transition following the firing of McDermott and elevation of Brady.
Addae spent the past two seasons on McDermott’s staff, working primarily with Buffalo’s cornerbacks. He navigated a stretch marked by heavy injury turnover and constant reshuffling in the secondary.
His departure prompted Bills reporter Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic to describe the move as an offseason loss for Buffalo.
“That’s a big loss for the Bills. Addae was very good,” Buscaglia posted on X. “Looking more and more like close to a complete overhaul to the Bills’ defensive staff.”
Addae, 41, is a veteran defensive backs coach with extensive collegiate and NFL experience. Before joining the Bills, he coached the Miami Hurricanes’ secondary in 2022 and 2023 under head coach Mario Cristobal.

His college résumé also includes stops at Georgia, West Virginia, Minnesota, Arizona, Cincinnati, and Michigan. In West Virginia, he served as co-defensive coordinator during the 2020 season.
Addae’s exit is the second known coaching departure from the Bills’ staff following McDermott’s firing. Miami also hired former Bills special teams coordinator Chris Tabor earlier in the week as part of new head coach Jeff Hafley’s effort to build out his staff.

Buffalo’s coaching changes come after the organization dismissed McDermott following the 2025 season, ending a nine-year run that included eight playoff appearances but no Super Bowl berths. As is common when a new head coach is appointed, staff turnover has followed quickly.
Addae departs Buffalo, having coached through a challenging stretch for the Bills’ defense over the past few seasons. His move to Miami continues a period of flux for Buffalo’s defensive staff.
More movement could follow in the coming days as Buffalo continues to evaluate its coaching structure under new leadership.
