Bill Belichick Writing a Book: What Patriots Legend’s Project Reportedly Will Be About

Bill Belichick soon will tell his story, but will it be the story New England Patriots fans are looking for? The legendary head coach, who left the Patriots early in the offseason, reportedly plans to write a book. However, fans eager for a revealing tell-all might be disappointed by the final product.

New Report Confirms Bill Belichick’s Book Plans

Earlier this month, Page Six’s Ian Mohr reported Belichick was working on a book. And now some NFL insiders have confirmed the rumors.

“Bill Belichick is planning on writing a book, according to officials briefed on his plans,” The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported on Friday morning. Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi corroborated Marchand’s report.

Mohr and Marchand both offered insight into which publisher could secure the rights to Belichick’s book.

From Mohr: “Said an insider, ‘It’s the big business imprints that are the ones meeting and bidding on it.'”

From Marchand: “The publisher considered the favorite, Simon & Schuster’s Avid Reader Press, has produced Patriots books previously.”

Marchand added that Simon & Schuster declined to comment on the report and that Belichick’s representatives didn’t return calls.

What Will Belichick’s Book Be About?

Given how Belichick was portrayed in The Dynasty docuseries about the Patriots, many New England fans want him to fire back with his side of the story. Belichick might enact revenge someday, but he probably won’t do so in his book.

“The nature of the book is not yet fully known,” Marchand wrote. “In light of how he was represented in Apple TV’s recent documentary, his side of his legendary nearly quarter-century run would be of great interest. However, Belichick may just write about his views on leadership or a topic in that genre.”

Marchand might be on to something.

Mohr reported the book will be “more of the business variety.” Giardi, who spoke to sources at the NFL Owners Meetings, said the belief is Belichick’s book will be about “leadership.”

Belichick’s book probably won’t come out anytime soon. In the meantime, Patriots fans probably can look forward to his foray into broadcasting.

    Belichick Reportedly Pursuing TV Job

Marchand has been the leading authority on Belichick’s potential TV plans.

In early March, Marchand reported that Peyton Manning was recruiting Belichick for a role with his Omaha Productions company. The goal, in part, would be to pair Belichick with recently retired Alabama legend Nick Saban for an alternative college football broadcast on ESPN, similar to the widely popular ManningCast.

Marchand also reported Belichick had “many options” on his table and already had met with executives from NBC and CBS. However, Marchand noted Belichick wasn’t interested in a weekly studio show and only wanted to talk about “aspects of football that interest him.”

Marchand offered more reporting on Wednesday morning.

“While ESPN continues to pursue Bill Belichick, Belichick has told networks he is disinclined to be part of a regular studio show, according to officials briefed on the talks,” Marchand wrote. “ESPN could combine with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and NFL Films to secure the legendary coach for a broadcasting role.”

Ultimately, all roads might lead to ESPN.

On Wednesday, Pat McAfee offered a not-so-subtle hint that Belichick will be a guest on his alternative broadcast of the 2024 NFL Draft. The popular ESPN personality has openly recruited Belichick for a role on The Pat McAfee Show since Belichick parted with the Patriots.

So, some interesting Belichick content might be on the horizon. But don’t be surprised if the book doesn’t scratch your Patriots itch.
