While ESPN was carrying the regular “Monday Night Football” broadcast with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman announcing the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers, another broadcast was taking place.
Over on ESPN2, the network was adding a little “Monsters Inc.” flavor to that broadcast, and people were enjoying it.
What Are People Saying About ESPN’s ‘Monsters Inc.’ Broadcast?
One fan watching the “Monsters Funday Football” broadcast shared his broadcast setup in a post on X.
This is great @danorlovsky7 my kids loved Berman and the “fly eagles fly” from Wazowski. Might be the best gimmick yet @PatMcAfeeShow pic.twitter.com/FjMZkv9cFW

JP Acosta of the Pushing the Pile Podcast already has made up his mind: “We, yes WE, will be watching MNF on the Monsters Inc broadcast”.
ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky is joined by Drew Carter on the call of the “Monsters Funday Football” game on Monday night. They appeared, though, as “Monsters Inc.”-type animated characters themselves.
Originally, “Monsters Inc.” was a movie from Pixar Animation Studios, released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2001. It featured two main characters: James Patrick “Sulley” Sullivan, a hairy-looking character, and his close friend, Mike Wazowski. Both are employed by Monsters, Inc.
Among those providing voices in the original movie were John Goodman, Billy Crystal, James Coburn, and Steve Buscemi.
On the ESPN2 broadcast, Eagles and Chargers players were showing up as “Monsters, Inc.” animated characters on the field. Sulley and Mike also found themselves in the middle of the action, too.
The Eagles and Chargers players, or “characters,” mirrored in-game action, so the plays being called by Carter and Orlovsky are in real time. It’s a unique broadcast that may introduce some younger NFL fans to a new way of watching the game.
