Super Bowl 60 is drawing near, as the Seattle Seahawks prepare to face the New England Patriots, and Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins weighed in on the matchup. It might still be Pro Bowl week, but a lot of attention will be on the big game next week, with Higgins among the many people who’ll be tuning in on Super Bowl Sunday.
What did the wideout have to say about the Seahawks and Patriots?
Tee Higgins Advises Seahawks, Patriots Players To Stick to Their Identities in Super Bowl 60
Higgins is familiar with the atmosphere and stakes of a Super Bowl, having made the trip himself at the end of the 2021 season. The Bengals went 10-7 that year and took the long route through the postseason as a Wild Card. Nonetheless, they toppled the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Kansas City Chiefs to set up a Super Bowl showdown with the LA Rams at SoFi Stadium.
Although the Rams edged them 23-20 thanks to Cooper Kupp’s heroics, Higgins starred for Cincinnati with 4 receptions for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Having played on a stage that many current Seahawks and Patriots have yet to set foot on, Higgins is well-acquainted with what it’s like to play in one of the biggest games in all of sports. As such, he offered some straightforward advice to players in his exclusive interview with PFSN.
“My advice would be to soak in the moment because you’re not promised to play in that game ever again, you know what I mean?” he said. “So soak in the moment, enjoy the atmosphere, but once the clock starts, just be you. Be yourself and play your game.”
The Patriots and Seahawks will be expected to lean hard on their strengths in the big game. Seattle has a strong offense, featuring superstar wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, while New England sports a stellar defense, starring Christian Gonzalez, who ranked 12th among all cornerbacks this campaign in PFSN’s Cornerback Impact Metrics.
There’s a lot of detail to unpack in this matchup, but Higgins believes there will be one decisive factor that’ll determine the outcome of Super Bowl 60.
“I think [the Patriots’ defense] is pretty good,” he gave his prediction. “And they got a good back-seven as well, so it was a challenge out there, especially for me, just being there out wide against those corners; they’re pretty good. I honestly think the Patriots are going to end up pulling it off. I think their defense got a little edge [on] the Seahawks offense.”
If it does turn out to be a game between the Seahawks’ offense and the Patriots’ defense, the matchup could hinge on whether New England can take Smith-Njigba out of the game.
That said, February 8 will be an intriguing day of football.
