The NFL is in the middle of talking season as the league awaits the start of mandatory minicamp for teams all around the league.
Of course, there might not be a bigger talker than NFL legend Chad Johnson.
Chad Johnson is Very High on Jordan Love
While chatting with comedian Theo Von on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Johnson gave his take on who the top quarterbacks in the league are right now.
Here is what he had to say:
“Your tier-one quarterbacks are hard to come by…Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Jordan Love…”
Johnson mentioned players like Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence, who could be tier-one quarterbacks, but aren’t in his book.
After seeing how Love has played in his first few seasons after taking over for Aaron Rodgers, it makes sense as to why Johnson has Love over Herbert in his order.
Jordan Love vs. Justin Herbert
In two seasons as the Packers’ full-time starter, Love has guided the team to the playoffs both times. In 2023, he threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns on his way to proving doubters wrong in his first season starting in Titletown.
The following season, despite missing a couple of games due to injury, he posted a 96.7 passer rating and tossed 25 touchdowns.
For Justin Herbert, the Chargers’ Pro Bowl quarterback burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2020, throwing 31 touchdowns. In 2021, he became the first Chargers quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season.
Despite being a starter longer than Love has, Herbert has made the same number of playoff appearances and has zero playoff wins. While both have taken different routes to get to where they are, they are both entering their age-27 season with plenty more to prove to each of their fan bases.
The Packers and their fans likely feel like they should have won more with both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers under center. Now, it is time for Love to become a champion.
The Chargers have never won a Super Bowl, which is why there is plenty of pressure on Herbert moving forward.
The storylines and questions surrounding these two players won’t leave anytime soon unless they can find a way to guide their teams to a title. Both the Packers and the Chargers are two of the league’s quieter teams that are just lying in the weeds ahead of the 2025 season.
