“I would have picked Ponds,” said NFL draft analyst Ian Cummings on PFSN’s “Football Debate Club“.
“I think, you know, watching the film, like Jacob said, you know, he’s such an instinctive, intelligent player, and it really makes up for a lot of the, you know, athletic, even athletic deficiencies.”
It is a fair critique in a class loaded with traits-heavy prospects. Terrell is not the player who jumps off the screen in testing, and his Relative Athletic Score raised some eyebrows. But the Falcons were clearly betting on what shows up on tape more than what shows up on a spreadsheet.
Cummings continued to point out the context behind those athletic concerns.
“I think he tweaked his hamstring on his pro day too. So you wonder if maybe he wasn’t at 100% even though I don’t think he’s an elite athlete on film, I do think the vertical speed does show up as a slight deficiency.”
That balance is key. The limitations are real, particularly at high speeds.
But so is the ability to process routes quickly, stay attached in coverage, and make plays on the ball. In a league that increasingly values coverage versatility, Terrell checks a lot of boxes.
