With minicamps now gone, the scandal involving Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini is getting attention once again. As new details continue to emerge, it may turn out that the secret uncovered in March wasn’t that much of a secret around the league.
Tony Farmer Questions Whether Networks Knew About Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini
Over the course of the scandal, Tony Farmer has been discussing new details about the story, and one has caught his attention. He noted that Russini and Vrabel had been together with members of the Tennessee Titans’ coaching staff on other occasions, and that their friendship might not have been a big secret.
Farmer also had an important question for the executives in the networks where Russini worked in the decade. If members of the Titans’ coaching staff knew about the duo, could they have known about it as well?
“According to the NYT, Dianna Russini’s friend said members of the Titans coaching staff were present at a casino with Mike Vrabel and Russini,” Farmer wrote on X. “It’s getting harder to believe execs at ESPN and The Athletic didn’t know about the friendship because it seems like Vrabel and Russini weren’t trying very hard to hide it. These execs won’t answer questions. Is it possible they not only knew, but they encouraged it?”
Farmer has discussed the story involving Vrabel and Russini ever since the scandal came to light. The story became the biggest talking point during draft week, with Vrabel missing Day 3 of the draft to be with his family. He was officially back with the team two days after, as the New England Patriots started their 2026 rookie minicamp.

Vrabel carried on as normal, while Russini took a step back from the spotlight after she resigned from The Athletic. She’s currently not working for any outlet, and it’s unclear whether she’ll have any kind of role covering the 2026 season.
A recent New York Times article about Russini revealed fresh details, such as that she routinely FaceTimed NFL head coaches during traffic stops, offering to connect officers with their favorite coach to avoid citations. Her yearly salary at The Athletic, which was close to $800,000, was also revealed in the article.

In the article, Russini responded to The New York Times via text message, noting the ordeal had a “significant impact” on her life and referring to herself as a “former journalist.”
With the 2026 season approaching, Vrabel is now fully focused on taking the Patriots back to the Super Bowl after their surprising appearance in his first year coaching the team. The next steps for Russini, on the other hand, haven’t been revealed. It remains to be seen if she will speak out and share her side of the story, but joining a major outlet feels unlikely at this point.
