Ashton Jeanty’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

You’ve heard it since the start of the 2025 NFL Draft cycle: Ashton Jeanty is different. We’re here to confirm that he is. Entering the cycle, Jeanty was PFN’s highest-graded RB since Bijan Robinson. He remains on that podium. College football watchers in the know expected Barry Sanders-esque numbers from Jeanty in 2024, and he got close.

Jeanty’s legendary 2024 campaign placed him second all-time behind Sanders in single-season rushing yards with 2,601, at 7 yards per carry. Jeanty racked up 30 total touchdowns last season, including 29 scores on the ground, en route to a second-place finish in Heisman Trophy voting.

At 5’8 1/2″ and an almost 220-pound playing weight, Jeanty brings a devastating elusion fusion to the fold — using his low center of gravity, elite explosiveness and agility, sharp vision and creative instincts, and physical edge to terrorize defenders every week. And on top of all this, he’s a dynamic, well-versed receiving weapon.

Ashton Jeanty’s Latest NFL Draft Projection

PFSN’s Ian Cummings projected Jeanty to be drafted fourth in his most recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft.

Cummings said, “The Chicago Bears acquired Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson in the early months of 2025. Ben Johnson is striving to have an elite two-phase offense, and nothing less in his first year. They have most of the pieces in place. A difference-maker at RB is next up.

“Johnson’s creativity in the passing game gets the most attention, but Detroit’s strong running game helped the Lions control games. Jeanty is the perfect RB to carry that effect to Chicago with his blend of elusiveness, vision, creative IQ, and ruthless physicality.”

Where Does Ashton Jeanty Rank Among 2025’s RB Prospects?

Here are the top 10 RB rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to PFSN Draft Analyst Ian Cummings:

    10. Dylan Sampson, Tennessee
    9. Devin Neal, Kansas
    8. Ollie Gordon II, Oklahoma State
    7. Damien Martinez, Miami (FL)
    6. Cameron Skattebo, Arizona State
    5. Kaleb Johnson, Iowa
    4. Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State
    3. TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
    2. Omarion Hampton, North Carolina
    1. Ashton Jeanty, Boise State

Ashton Jeanty offers outstanding playmaking ability and possesses the game-breaking attributes to justify a team spending high draft capital on a non-priority position, such as running back. He offsets his average size with outstanding speed, burst, and vision.

Jeanty is a short running back but has a dense build with a sturdy lower body. While not possessing imposing size, Jeanty has rare contact balance and can easily bounce off would-be tacklers without losing speed or stability. He is a scheme-versatile back who shows the ability to excel in a power and gap scheme or a wide-zone-oriented offense and displays outstanding vision.

In the passing game, Jeanty displays good overall hands and is a reliable target on screens, wheel routes, and rail routes. However, he doesn’t have an array of routes in his bag and wouldn’t be a player teams would want to split outside. Jeanty is a willing pass protector, but his lack of strength and length limits his ability to consistently win at the point of attack.
