NFL Insider Reveals Why Cardinals Are Having a ‘Tough Time’ Attracting Top Head Coach Candidates

NFL insider Jordan Schultz explains why the Arizona Cardinals will likely miss out on top head coaching candidates.

It will be an interesting offseason for the Arizona Cardinals and their fans as the team looks to bounce back from another disappointing season. Despite entering the 2025 season with some excitement around the club, things quickly went from bad to worse, and the Cards finished the year with a dismal 3-14 record. This led to the firing of head coach Jonathan Gannon; however, his replacement may not be announced anytime soon.

NFL Insider Believes the Cardinals May Struggle to Land a Top Head Coach Candidate

Landing a head coaching position in the NFL is a dream come true for many former players and aspiring leaders looking to make their mark on a franchise. That said, it may be difficult for the Cardinals to land a notable candidate, despite the vacancy and the presence of some intriguing young players such as Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. on the roster.

On the latest episode of the “Schultz Report, NFL insider Jordan Schultz shared his thoughts on Arizona’s quiet coaching search and why he believes the team might not be able to land a coveted name like John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin.

“They’re going to have a hard time attracting a top-tier coaching candidate because history has shown that they haven’t spent big money on coaches,” Schultz explained. “So if Arizona wants a big fish or even a coveted up-and-coming coach, they’re going to have a tough time unless ownership really steps up,” he continued.

There are several question marks surrounding the Cardinals this offseason, which could also deter coaches looking for their next gig. The biggest uncertainty comes in the future of the quarterback position, as there have been rumblings that Kyler Murray’s tenure with the club could be coming to an end.

“It’s a 3-14 team with no clear plan at quarterback, and their division had three playoff teams, including the final two in the NFC right now. That’s not an easy job at all, but someone will take it because it’s 1 of 32, I just don’t expect anything splashy in the desert,” Schultz added.

The front office’s potential unwillingness to spend up on an elite head coaching option, as well as the team’s possible need for a new quarterback, might make it difficult for fans to feel optimistic heading into next season. It will be interesting to see where the Cardinals ultimately turn with their coaching staff, especially with multiple top names already coming off the market.
