Sterling Sharpe is finally headed to Canton, receiving the long-overdue recognition for his NFL career. Although his time on the field was shorter than many Hall of Famers, he made a lasting impact during his seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
Unlike most Hall of Famers, Sterling isn’t the most famous member of his family, his younger brother, Shannon Sharpe, is already in the Hall of Fame and has become a major figure in NFL media.
Sterling Sharpe and Shannon Sharpe’s Relationship
Sterling’s parents had minimal involvement in his childhood, leaving him reliant on his siblings and grandparents for guidance. Tragically, his grandmother, who played a pivotal role in raising the brothers, passed away shortly before Shannon’s Hall of Fame induction in 2011. Sterling is now married with two children and will share his special moment on Saturday with his siblings, Shannon and Libby, as his Hall of Fame enshrinement is unveiled.
It will be an emotional day for the Sharpe family as Sterling and Shannon become the only brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Raised in Georgia by their grandparents alongside Libby, the Sharpe brothers became the most successful brothers in NFL history.

Shannon and Sterling shared a close bond that Shannon carried with him throughout his NFL career. After Sterling’s playing days were cut short by a career-ending neck injury, Shannon carried forward his brother’s legacy, going on to win three Super Bowls. During his Hall of Fame induction, Shannon credited Sterling for the profound influence he had on both his career and his life.
In his induction speech, Shannon acknowledged that he may be the only person in the Hall of Fame who isn’t even the best football player in his family. Sterling was an outstanding receiver with five Pro Bowl appearances, three First-Team All-Pro selections, five 1,100+ receiving yard seasons, and a three-time receptions leader.
Sterling’s prime was extraordinary. He dominated at the University of South Carolina and carried that excellence into his NFL career. While his career being cut short is a huge disappointment and leaves lingering “what-ifs” about what might have been, those questions no longer matter—his moment has finally arrived.
Shannon has been a massive advocate for Sterling to get the recognition he deserves, and couldn’t be more proud to see him enshrined in Canton forever. Sterling has waited his turn and will finally get his opportunity to be immortalized.
It’s a full-circle moment for Sterling and Shannon, going from childhood dreams of playing in the NFL to becoming the only pair of brothers enshrined in the Hall of Fame. This weekend, Sterling’s induction will give the brothers a truly special moment, cementing his place in football history forever.
