At 39 years old, Aqib Talib is grateful he accomplished something every NFL player dreams of. Talib won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos in a moment he’ll never forget.
He was the No. 20 overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2008, but his best work came from 2014-17 when he was with the Broncos. Now that he’s retired, he can sit back and relax, though he took offense to what this five-time Pro Bowler said.
Aqib Talib Fires Back At Marcel Reece’s Take On The 8-2 Denver Broncos
Marcel Reece, 40, appeared in four straight Pro Bowls from 2012-15. He did so during his lengthy run with the Oakland Raiders from 2008 to 2016. His prime came during those years, though he never achieved what Talib did in Denver. Ultimately, that doesn’t detract from Reece’s career, and he’s still entitled to express his views on the current state of the Broncos.
Reece did just that during an interview with Kay Adams, “In those wins you have to fix the problems that you’re having. Right now, the Broncos aren’t necessarily fixing the mistakes that they’re making. You can tell they have the makings of a good team, but they’re just going to be a good regular season team.”
“They may even win the division, but this is a one-and-done team,” he claimed. “When it gets to the playoffs, you cannot be one dimensional. You can’t depend on your defense to bail them out every single time.”
Talib was in the replies of that post and put Reece on blast, “What does he know about winning? He played for the Raiders! I bet his best season was 8-8!!! LOL”
Ultimately, Talib was right. Reece left the Raiders prior to their 12-4 season, where they lost in the Wild Card round. During his time with the Raiders, he never had a season better than 8-8. They had that record in both 2010-11, but his response is valid.
Regardless, Reece still has a point when discussing the state of the Broncos. They’re continuing to win, no matter how ugly it may be. When the lights shine the brightest, one can only imagine how this team is going to fare against a team like the Kansas City Chiefs. Reece said it hurts to admit, but he knows the Chiefs are the better team and the AFC Championship runs through Arrowhead.
Talib’s jab at Reece was yet another example of NFL veterans poking fun at one another. Reece spoke his mind on the state of the current Broncos team, and that’s something Talib took offense to, as he’ll forever love the Broncos for what they provided him.
