NFL Analyst Rips Cowboys for Not Drafting Shedeur Sanders After Joe Milton III’s Preseason Struggles

One NFL analyst took a shot at the Dallas Cowboys for not drafting Shedeur Sanders after a disappointing preseason showing from Joe Milton III.

The Dallas Cowboys opened their 2025 preseason with a 31-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Cowboys didn’t play their starters in this one, allowing Joe Milton III to take most of the quarterback reps.

Skip Bayless was not impressed with Milton’s performance in today’s preseason opener and took a shot at the Cowboys for not taking Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Skip Bayless Calls Out the Cowboys for Not Drafting Shedeur Sanders

Bayless was uninspired by Milton’s performance against the Rams. Milton completed 17 of his 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He tallied 22 yards on the ground as well. It wasn’t Milton’s best showing, and Bayless took the opportunity to question why the Cowboys decided on Milton instead of Sanders as a backup QB option.

“Too bad the Cowboys couldn’t at least have taken Shedeur, who grew up in the Dallas area, in the 4th round. Oh, yeah, they traded that pick for Jonathan Mingo,” said Bayless.

Bayless sarcastically criticized the Cowboys for not taking Sanders in the draft. Sanders was available in the fourth round, but the Cowboys traded that pick away for WR Jonathan Mingo. Bayless used the local factor to justify selecting Sanders, as his father played for years for the Cowboys, leading to Sanders growing up in the Dallas area.

After Sanders’ performance in the Cleveland Browns’ preseason opener, Bayless was much more impressed by Sanders than Milton. Bayless took specific exception to one throw from Milton, where he tried to connect on a deep ball into double coverage, which ended up as an interception.

Milton has always had an arm that can launch it downfield, and sometimes it runs him into trouble, as it did against the Rams.

“Joe Milton has a huge arm … but he just cut loose deep into double coverage … intercepted in the end zone,” said Bayless.

Milton must improve his performance if he wants to play during the season. As long as Dak Prescott stays healthy, he will not see the field unless it’s a blowout. Bayless hopes that Prescott will remain healthy for the sake of Cowboys fans because he believes it would be a disaster if Milton finds himself in a position to start.

“Watching Joe Milton so far, I sure hope Dak doesn’t miss any games this season,” Bayless tweeted.

Prescott will be eager to stay healthy for the whole season after losing half of last season to a season-ending injury. The Cowboys struggled last season and will need Prescott and the offense to improve on a disappointing 2024.

Cowboys fans are getting impatient as the Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought approaches 30 years amid plenty of playoff struggles.
