Shedeur Sanders, one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been linked to the Cleveland Browns in multiple mock drafts. The Browns are in the middle of a significant roster overhaul, and quarterback is just one of several critical needs they’re expected to address.
But wide receiver and cornerback are also glaring holes, and the 2025 class happens to be loaded at both positions. With the No. 2 overall pick, Cleveland has a prime opportunity to land elite talent. While many expect Sanders to be the guy, one PFF analyst thinks the Browns should go in a different direction — one that could fill two starting spots with a single player.

Analyst Suggests Travis Hunter Over Shedeur Sanders for the Browns
The analyst argues that Travis Hunter, the two-way star from Colorado, would make more sense for Cleveland because of his unique ability to contribute at both wide receiver and corner.
“I’m going to go with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, the Cleveland Browns. I think they should take Travis Hunter. Honestly, it goes down to Cleveland can improve at both wide receiver and at corner,” the analyst said.
That argument isn’t without merit. The Browns’ current wide receiver group includes Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, Elijah Moore, and Michael Woods. Jeudy was the only one ranked among PFF’s top 80 wideouts last season, raising concerns about depth and production at the position.
Things aren’t much better at corner. Denzel Ward was the only Browns player to crack the top 100 in PFF’s cornerback grades, coming in at No. 41. Greg Newsome and Martin Emerson have flashed upside, but neither ranked inside the top 100. That’s why Hunter, widely seen as a generational athlete with legitimate NFL potential at both spots, is suddenly in play.
“So you’re talking about the team that could use a lot of help at wide receiver and a lot of help at corner. And you have the most unique prospect in NFL history in Travis Hunter who could help you out at both spots.”

A quarterback is a serious need, but the Browns may be able to wait until later in the draft or explore free agency for help under center. Edge rusher is another key position in play. PFSN’s 2025 NFL Mock Draft has Cleveland taking Penn State’s Abdul Carter, pairing him with Myles Garrett, who recently signed a long-term deal to stay in Cleveland.
At No. 2 overall, Cleveland can go in multiple directions. And while the spotlight is on Sanders, names like Hunter and Carter could end up being the smarter play — especially if the Browns want to build out the roster before locking in their future quarterback.
