Analyst Pessimistic on Bill Belichick Mounting an NFL Comeback as Noise Grows Around UNC HC’s Personal Life

NFL analyst Albert Breer isn't convinced on a potential return to the NFL for Bill Belichick as his personal life becomes more visible to the public.

Bill Belichick took one year off from coaching before accepting the University of North Carolina job.

Belichick is one of the best coaches in NFL history and is taking on a new challenge in college football. If he has success with UNC and an NFL team is interested next offseason, he could reconsider his position and go back to the league. Belichick’s contract with UNC is favorable for a potential jump back to the NFL.

Belichick’s personal life has been in the media recently, as his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson starts to become more public. This coverage has led an analyst to be less optimistic about a jump back to the NFL.

Potential NFL Comeback for Bill Belichick

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer isn’t convinced that an NFL team is going to come calling for Belichick if they have an opening. Belichick’s relationship with Hudson has been getting a lot of attention, and it could be causing some concern for a potential NFL team.

“There were lots of judgments made and jokes told last week about Bill Belichick, and I do think, in the end, it will have an impact on his ability to return to the NFL,” said Breer.

Fans, analysts, and executives have been seeing the involvement of Hudson with Belichick at UNC. Breer thinks that this media coverage is going to hurt Belichick’s chances of potentially making it back to the NFL. His contract’s buyout decreases to $1 million in about a month, which Breer talks about as potential bait for an NFL team to come pick him up.

“I’ve long thought an owner looking for credibility would take a real swing at landing Belichick in 2026. But I’m not nearly as sure about that anymore,” said Breer on a potential jump to the NFL.

Belichick has won eight Super Bowls, six as a head coach and two as a coordinator. There is no doubt that he holds an enormous amount of credibility in the NFL landscape, and an owner could take a shot on him if they decide to move on from their current head coach. Breer’s hesitation comes from the role that Hudson has been given and her involvement with Belichick’s job at UNC.

“Essentially, it’s not that he’s with a 24-year-old—it’s what he put her in charge of,” said Breer on his hesitations.

Belichick has given Hudson a role, and it could be potentially harmful to his chances at an NFL comeback. These two have been under a microscope as their relationship has become more visible, especially with Hudson and Belichick being around each other all the time. Hudson has been at practices and has been allowed to be involved with Belichick at UNC.

While teams might be hesitant as a result, he has a favorable buyout in a month and will have the best resume of any coach on the market by a landslide. Also, Belichick is getting older and might decide to stick it out and build success at UNC.

Belichick’s future can go many ways, and only time will tell.
