Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen is gearing up for his ninth season with the Buffalo Bills. After a string of playoff disappointments, he and the Bills’ supporters hope that 2026 will be their year.
Until then, the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player is showing up to support his fellow Buffalo athletes. Allen made an appearance at Game 2 between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins and made sure to hype up the crowd.
Josh Allen Leads Sabres Fans by Banging Drum, Chugging Beer
As shared on the Sabres’ official X account, Allen led the pre-game cheer before Buffalo’s second playoff game against the Boston Bruins.
While wearing a black Alex Tuch jersey, Allen pounded the drum to energize the attendees, who shouted, “Let’s go, Sabres!” in unison. The two-time Second-Pro All-Pro QB finished the job by chugging a can of beer.

The NFL world was quick to react. Though the Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad covers the Miami Dolphins, the Bills’ division rivals, he quoted the video and said, “Respect it.”
What’s also respectable is that the Sabres returned to the NHL playoffs after a 14-year drought. They also won the first game of their series against Boston, 4-3. Tage Thompson had 2 goals and an assist, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen saved 17 shots out of 20 attempts. Tuch and Mattias Samuelsson also scored goals for the Sabres during their playoff opener in Buffalo’s KeyBank Center.
Meanwhile, Jourdon LaBarber called Allen’s cheer job “an iconic Buffalo moment.” Similarly, Ball Don’t Lie Podcast host and ESPN 1530 Cincinnati mainstay Austin Elmore reacted, “Need to see Joe Burrow do the siren thing at a Cyclones game.”
News 4 Buffalo anchor Dave Gerber is pumped up and reacted with a simple “LFG.” Movie producer and pro surfer James Tyler Fazio called Allen’s act “epic,” while Bengals Squad Show host Alex Frank said, “This is AWESOME.”
Congressman Nick Langworthy, the representative for New York’s 23rd district, joined in the fun by commenting, “Beating the drum and chugging a beer like only an MVP can. @JoshAllenQB setting the tone before puck drop. Go Sabres!”

As Allen sets the tone for their NHL counterparts, Bills franchise has turned into a winner and a perennial playoff contender thanks in large part to the QB.
Since the Bills selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the team has had seven consecutive double-digit-winning seasons. The former Wyoming standout has led the Bills to two AFC Championship Games.
Finally, while most reactions liked Allen’s support for the Sabres, there had to be one party-pooper. Mike Grinnell of Spittin’ Chiclets called him out by reacting, “Weak chug tbh. And im not a chug guy.”
