Former Giants Star Amani Toomer Rips GM Joe Schoen, Reveals Why NFL Free Agents Are Avoiding New York

Former New York Giants star Amani Toomer sent a strong warning to general manager Joe Schoen, revealing why free agents may be avoiding New York.

According to Toomer, Schoen doesn’t inspire confidence, and the Giants’ organization lacks stability under his leadership. He believes the franchise might need to consider moving on from Schoen to attract marquee free agents in the future.

Amani Toomer Says Giants Are ‘Sinking Ship’

Toomer didn’t hold back when explaining why free agents may be hesitant to sign with New York. He called for Schoen’s immediate dismissal, telling ESPN Radio that he’s “seen enough of Joe Schoen” and that players he’s spoken to view the Giants as a “sinking ship.”

Fighting words? Toomer sees it as the truth.

This isn’t the first time Toomer has given his former team a harsh reality check. In February, the Giants’ all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards voiced his frustration over the state of the franchise.

“I love Brian Daboll, and I love Joe Schoen,” Toomer said, via the New York Daily News. “But at the end of the day, this is not a personality contest. This is a results business, and the results just aren’t there. It’s not personal. I don’t hate these guys. I just want the results. It’s like, ‘Show me the baby.’ Show me something to be proud of.”

Giants GM Joe Schoen Prioritizing a Quarterback?

The Giants hold the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and quarterback remains a top priority this offseason. Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are widely regarded as the top prospects, but it all depends on what the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns do ahead of them.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Schoen confirmed that he was evaluating both Ward and Sanders. He also acknowledged the possibility of bringing in a veteran quarterback as a bridge option.

“We don’t know who’s going to be there,” Schoen told reporters, via NFL Media. “When we get around these kids, they may or may not be a fit for us. We’re going to have to address the position somewhere, and even if you get a young quarterback, you’d like to have a vet in the room with them to show them the ropes and how to be a pro. So we’re looking at all different avenues.”

Tommy DeVito is currently the only quarterback on the Giants’ roster. The team signed him to an extension after letting Drew Lock and Tim Boyle walk in free agency. Depth at the position remains a major need in New York.
