Graham Gano on Giants IR for the Second Time This Season

The 38-year-old kicker has had a long football career, but over the past three seasons, he has been plagued by injuries that have forced him to miss numerous games. In the last three years, he has played only 23 games.

A knee injury sidelined him in 2023, while a groin injury kept him out last year for several Weeks. This season, he first suffered a groin injury during pregame warm-ups before a Week 3 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, which caused him to miss four weeks. Gano returned on Oct. 26 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, in the very next game against the San Francisco 49ers, he felt discomfort again. He later revealed that he has a herniated disc pressing on his spinal cord, which caused pain even before the game. He also missed a 45-yard field goal during that matchup.

Due to his injuries and missed kicks, Gano has faced considerable criticism from fans. Sadly, some of it has crossed the line.

Gano earlier shared how brutal fans’ comments get, saying, “Ever since sports betting started, I get people telling me to kill myself every week because I’ll hit a kick that loses them money, or I’ll miss a kick and it loses them money. The other day, somebody told me to get cancer and die.”

Due to his neck issue, the team ruled him out for their Week 10 game against the Bears and placed him on injured reserve again. In Gano’s absence, Younghoe Koo has been handling the kicking duties for the Giants.

These injuries have been extremely frustrating for both Gano and his fans, something he openly admitted.

“It’s unbelievably frustrating,” Gano said. “I mean, obviously all I want to do is play football. I can’t control the injuries that have happened. It’s not like I’ve done something that is out of the ordinary, like outside the building to hurt myself or anything. So, I think that’s frustrating.”

For fans wondering whether the Giants’ kicker will return in the Week 13 game against the New England Patriots, the wait is definitely longer.

A player placed on IR must miss at least four games, which means the earliest Gano can return is Week 15, when the Giants face the Minnesota Vikings on December 21.
