Ty Simpson is one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Several teams are expected to be interested in picking him this year, with the Cleveland Browns being one of them. The Alabama Crimson Tide superstar commented on the possibility of going there.
Browns Could Target Ty Simpson in Draft After QB Struggles
The Browns could potentially be in the mix to pick a quarterback during the draft this year. Their current options at the position on their roster have been relatively unimpressive, and they recently hired new head coach Todd Monken.
Simpson was asked at the 2026 NFL Combine how he would feel if the Browns picked him. He described his opinion of the situation and how Monken’s presence affects his assessment.
“I’m very excited. My dad and coach Monken go way back. They talk often, he texted him when he got the job. So, if I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it would be a dream come true. I think I’d be in great hands with the team that they have and the organization, and then coach Monken and what he does with quarterbacks and the offense is super quarterback friendly,” explained Simpson.

Simpson was referring to the relationship between his father and the Browns’ head coach. Monken previously served in the same position for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, where Jason is an alumnus.
They met during the recruiting process, when Monken was with the Georgia Bulldogs and was considering adding Ty to their roster. The quarterback instead spent his entire college football career with the Crimson Tide, but pairing with Monken is now apparently a possibility with the Browns.
He started just one collegiate season and finished 25th among all quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for his 2025 campaign.
His connection to the Browns coach, along with a relatively weak quarterback class this year, makes it a realistic possibility that they pick him early.
Their current situation at the position is a bit of a mess, so they may be seeking alternative options, despite already drafting two quarterbacks last year.
Deshaun Watson missed the entire season with an injury, while rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel struggled as a whole. Monken may want to bring in his own guy rather than inheriting one, so targeting a prospect he has already developed a relationship with makes sense, especially if the prospect claims he would be excited by the possibility.
