Amazon Prime NFL play-by-play announcer Al Michaels has been calling NFL games on television for a long time, dating back to his days on ABC’s “Monday Night Football.” But some NFL fans who were watching “Thursday Night Football” between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers want Michaels gone.
Michaels was on the mic when Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker attempted a field goal in the second quarter. Before Dicker’s kick, though, Michaels jinxed Dicker’s attempt, which he missed. Now, there are calls for Michaels to retire.
What Are Chargers, NFL Fans Saying About Al Michaels?
One fan called out Michaels because he apparently couldn’t decide whether Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz injured his shoulder or elbow.
This fan headed out on X and posted, “@NFL_PRIME Time for Al Michaels to Retire ! Should have years ago. Now he thinks an elbow is called a shoulder”.

This fan pointed out Michaels’ habit of throwing out jinxes left and right. The fan wrote, “Al Michaels stays jinxing everyone.” As for Michaels’ call of Dicker’s missed field goal, one fan pointed out that it’s time for old Al to go. The person wrote on X, “An someone please tell Al Michaels to retire man, horrific calling of that missed fg.”
Another fan offered some respectful words in Michaels’ direction. Namely, respectfully, telling Michaels to get lost. The fan wrote, “Al Michaels needs to retire. Respectfully.” And when Michaels had some pithy comments about Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, he got roasted by a fan tuning into Amazon Prime.
The fan headed out to X and dropped this piece of wisdom: “”You don’t think of Herbert as a mobile quarterback” Al Michaels you need to retire man the game passed you by a long time ago.”

This observant fan already wants Michaels out of the booth and leave his partner in the booth, analyst Kirk Herbstreit, behind. Maybe Herbstreit can handle play-by-play and his dog Peter can sit alongside for the fun, too. Well, back to Michaels here: “…and al michaels should go away.”
But one fan had a more direct thought about Michaels getting lost from the Amazon Prime broadcast. The person wrote, “Hey Al Michaels how about we shut the f**k up.” Oh, there was one more little suggestion for Michaels, too, from this person: “Just shut the f**k up Al Michaels.”
And on that note, Chargers fans and, well, maybe even Vikings fans can spread their hate and angst toward Michaels for another Thursday night. Don’t expect Amazon Prime, though, to get the longtime broadcaster out of the booth anytime soon.
