Jalen Ramsey may soon be on the move again, but the Miami Dolphins are not rushing into a decision. The offseason buzz has intensified around the former All-Pro cornerback, with multiple reports indicating that the franchise is open to exploring trade options.
The rumors have sparked plenty of speculation about where Ramsey might land next and what the holdup has been behind the scenes. He has been linked to several potential suitors, but no deal has materialized yet. So, what is really happening with Ramsey?
Jalen Ramsey Trade Talks Stalled Over Contract Concerns
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave the clearest indication yet of Ramsey’s trade outlook.
“The Dolphins continue to have conversations about trading Jalen Ramsey, and I think that a trade there will get done,” Schefter said Friday. “The question is, when does it get done? Does it get done next week, the week after, prior to the start of training camp? I don’t know exactly when it’s going to be, but Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It’ll be, I would expect, before the start of training camp.”
According to reports, the main holdup in finalizing a deal stems from financial concerns. Ramsey is scheduled to make $25.1 million this season and will count $16.7 million against Miami’s cap. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Dolphins have been unwilling to absorb any of Ramsey’s guaranteed money, which has cooled negotiations with interested teams.
“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Fowler reported.

Despite the financial gridlock, Ramsey’s trade value remains substantial. He is still regarded as one of the top defensive backs in the NFL and has reportedly shown interest in returning to the West Coast. Schefter mentioned that both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers are viewed as realistic landing spots, with the Rams having a natural appeal based on his successful past with the team.
“I think he would like to go to the West Coast, to Los Angeles, Rams, Chargers, somewhere like that, and we’ll see how that happens,” Schefter added.
Could Ramsey Be Traded Back to the Rams?
Ramsey’s potential return to the Rams has been widely speculated. The team previously traded two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to Jacksonville in 2019 to acquire him, and he was instrumental in their Super Bowl LVI victory. If a reunion happens, the price is expected to be significantly less than what the Rams originally paid.

Although trade talks have not yet produced a deal, the Rams remain interested. However, salary cap constraints and Miami’s firm stance on absorbing no guaranteed money remain significant barriers.
NFL training camps open in late July, giving Miami and Ramsey’s representatives only a few weeks to complete a deal. With June nearing its end and negotiations at a standstill, pressure is building for movement. Ramsey’s cryptic social media posts have only added to the speculation.
While nothing is official yet, insiders are convinced that Ramsey will be on a new team before camp opens. The only questions left are when and where.
