Adam Schefter Highlights Major Concerns Around Anthony Richardson’s Injury Ahead of Colts’ Training Camp

Anthony Richardson's nagging shoulder injury opens door for newest Colts QB and six-year NFL veteran.

Once his quarterback room to lose, Anthony Richardson’s injury may be severe enough to jeopardize his role as the starter. The 23-year-old recently visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who confirmed the Indianapolis Colts’ QB injury report remains unknown. Dr. ElAttrache previously maintained Richardson’s shoulder injury by performing surgery on his AC joint.

Anthony Richardson’s Injury Concern Elevates Opportunity for Fellow QBs

NFL insider Adam Schefter joined “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he spoke on the former Florida Gator’s injury-ridden journey.

With Richardson’s 2025 looking grim, Daniel Jones looks to perform his best Undertaker impersonation and rise from the grave.

“I think there’s a reason Daniel Jones picked Indianapolis,” said Schefter. “I think there’s a reason Indianapolis paid Daniel Jones more than the Pittsburgh Steelers are paying Aaron Rodgers. Because they knew at some point in time they might have to rely on Danny Dimes.”

With the door creaking open for Jones, it may be slamming shut on Richardson.

“As for what’s going on with Anthony Richardson,” said Schefter. “I think when you consider his injury history, consider the fact this shoulder had surgery his rookie year and now it’s an issue where they’re shutting him down until at least the start of training camp, I think it’s problematic.”

Schefter continued, “Now, I’ve gotten a few texts from a few different people, and every time I get one I go with that information to somebody who would have some information about the Colts quarterback. They keep saying ‘no that’s not true, no that’s not right.’

“I’ll just say there’s a lot of smoke flying around there about the condition of his shoulder, about screws in his shoulder, about the soreness in his shoulder, about how long it might last, about when he might throw again. Every time I go to somebody that would be in a position to know they say, ‘No he’s fine, he should be ready for training camp.'”

With the uncertainty and mass of rumors swirling, the ESPN insider believes Richardson’s condition is just as Dr. ElAttrache said, a toss-up.

“I just think for right now, it’s one of those lingering questions that’s out there,” said Schefter. “I have questions about whether or not he will be ready for the start of training camp, we don’t know when he’ll be back there.”

As the saying goes, one man’s loss is another man’s gain, and for Jones, he could be the perfect candidate to fill Richardson’s potential vacancy.

Daniel Jones Performance at Colts Minicamp Breathes Life Into Unpredictable 2025

With Jones and the New York Giants ending in disaster, the 28-year-old moved on to Minnesota, where he served as the club’s backup behind Sam Darnold. Now, as the mobile Jones stares down another starting opportunity, he is taking advantage of every moment.

Mandatory minicamp is off to an exhilarating start for the six-year pro. Amid Richardson’s absence, Jones is seeing first-team reps. While a small sample size, Jones’ performance thus far poses a sign of good things to come. Sports Illustrated’s Jake Arthur details the impressive start for one of the newest Colts.

“Throughout the week, Jones went 13-of-19 (68.4%) passing during 11-on-11s, with completions to Pittman (4), Downs (2), Tyler Warren (2), Jonathan Taylor (2), Alec Pierce, Tyler Goodson, and Will Mallory.”

An up-and-down 2024 saw the Colts finish with an 8-9 record. Entering 2025, expectations are high, and that goes for whoever is at the helm on opening day.
